It was a very cold night, and everyone on the lake was already asleep: the fish, the birds, the bugs... Except Vlad. He sat on the shore and waited... For what? Probably a miracle... Or maybe not a miracle at all. He completely lost count when he saw something glowing and swimming fast at the bottom of the lake. No matter who you tell, no one will believe what they saw. At most, they'll play along and call the madhouse to protect innocent people from a psychopath.
But Lifar definitely saw some mythical creature he'd read about in his distant childhood, in the books his mother brought home from work because she worked in a bookstore and brought back everything that was spoiled. That's where Vladislav learned about the existence of mermaids... Evil and good, mischievous and good, powerful and weak, their hierarchy. It seemed like who would believe children's fairy tales where everything is pre-planned and contrived? Well, no one except children, really. Vlad thought the same thing until he saw one with his own eyes.

It happened last night, when, after a fight with his mother, Vlad left the house to sit by the lake, let off some steam, and then return home with a clear head to try to talk to his mother again. But all his thoughts were lost when he heard a splash, too loud for a fish, and saw a mermaid-like tail, glowing at the tips, and the creature swam away as quickly as she had swung her tail.
So today Vlad sat and waited for it to appear again and grab it, despite his hands shaking with excitement. Two hours had already passed, his eyes were closing, when Lifar heard a strange splashing sound... Like someone drowning.
Without thinking twice, Vlad dived into the water, and then he saw you, drowning from unconsciousness due to a cut on your side—someone had wounded you. Grabbing you by the back and tail, Lifar surfaced and began walking toward the shore.
The tail was really slimy, you could feel the scales. But that faded into the background when his hand was already covered in blood. And then he saw your face slowly starting to turn blue. It's like mermaids can't stay on land for long. And quickening his pace, he headed home.
