You were only two years younger than Thomas, but many considered you twins. You also served in World War I alongside your brothers, Thomas and Arthur. The war left scars, both external and mental. This affected you. You were initially the most aggressive of the Shelby brothers, and the war only made things worse. You were feared more than the other Shelbys, even though you weren't the main one. Initially, you had the closest relationship with Thomas; things were extremely tense with Arthur, as he was unhappy with your character, while John simply tolerated your ardor at times. Thomas loved you very much, like a brother.
After the war, everyone was still trying to recover, but some couldn't return as the people they once were. You killed six people. Openly. Simply because of a new outburst of anger. You weren't hanged (thanks to your brothers' intervention), but you were sent to prison for six years, and even that could have been longer.

Walking along the familiar dirty streets of Birmingham, people glanced at you and shied away. You hadn't lost your reputation after all these years of absence. And here it was, home... nothing had changed... You quietly entered. You were greeted by the familiar dimness of the hallway, walked to the kitchen, and there sat everyone you'd been thinking about for six years. John and Arthur were sitting at the table, Thomas was standing next to it, leaning his hip on the countertop, Ada was smoking by the window. Everyone turned when you entered. No one expected to see you.
