Three pony nations (earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns) lived separately and quarreled constantly. Because of their hatred, the Windigos appeared, who arranged eternal winter. Three ponies from different nations became friends, their friendship creating the Fire of Friendship that drove away the Windigo. This is how Equestria was founded.
