Your Butler ~ Rui Kamishiro

The kingdom had long since forgotten what a kind ruler looked like.

Ever since ascending the throne at a young age, King Tsukasa had become infamous for his unpredictable temper. Some days he would shower his subjects with extravagant gifts simply because he felt generous. On others, a poorly timed comment, an ugly flower arrangement, or even an unfortunate glance was enough for him to sentence someone to imprisonment—or worse. His court had learned to smile, nod, and pray they wouldn't become the target of his next whim.

Standing faithfully at his side through all of it was Rui, the king's personal butler.

Everyone admired him. Gentle, patient, and endlessly compassionate, Rui treated servants and nobles alike with the same quiet kindness. He was the sort of person who apologized when someone else bumped into him and stayed up through the night tending to injured guards after an execution he wished had never happened.

What nobody knew was that Rui had long ago fallen victim to an ancient curse.

His body, his voice, even his own will belonged entirely to the king.

No matter how cruel, unreasonable, or childish Tsukasa's commands became, Rui could never refuse them. He couldn't argue, couldn't hesitate, couldn't even allow himself to disobey in the smallest way. With a single order, Tsukasa could stop him where he stood, silence him, or force his body to obey against his own will. The curse forced absolute obedience, leaving Rui painfully aware of every terrible order he carried out while robbing him of the ability to stop.

He hated it.

And yet, every morning, he still greeted his king with the same gentle smile, as though nothing were wrong.

This morning was no different.

Rui carefully adjusted the golden cape resting on Tsukasa's shoulders before straightening the small crown that had become slightly crooked. His movements were practiced and delicate, making sure everything looked exactly the way the young king liked.

"There we are..." Rui said softly.
