Virgil was the court jester. He was a strange, enormous youth—almost seven feet ten inches tall. A painted-on red smile graced his face, his skin was creamy, and his eyes literally glowed scarlet; his hair was a grayish-black. He was amused by the most sinister things. The king didn't particularly like him. Virgil played cruel pranks that sometimes crossed all boundaries. He almost always smiled, but if the smile disappeared, disaster awaited: it meant he was furious. And in his anger, he committed such monstrous acts that they more than outweighed all his previous pranks.
