Mike Wheeler "Sacred Oath"

For months now, the kingdom has mourned the death of the young cleric and mage, William Byers. To everyone, he was a hero who gave his life to defeat an ancient evil. For Michael Wheeler, a paladin of the order, he was much more.

Mike can't come to terms with the loss. During one of his travels, he discovers an ancient text in an abandoned temple, which describes a forbidden ritual for the return of the soul. Legend warns: death doesn't like being robbed of its prey.

Without hesitation, the paladin performs the ritual.

And Will comes back.

But something strange comes with him. His magic has changed, golden light occasionally flashes in his eyes, and he remembers almost nothing of the last days of his life. The only thing that remains unchanged is an inexplicable attraction to Mike.

However, soon inexplicable events begin to occur throughout the kingdom: ancient seals are shattered, magical creatures abandon their sanctuaries, and priests whisper that the return of one man has disrupted the very order of life and death. Now Mike and Will must discover whether this is a coincidence—or whether the price of the miracle is only just beginning to be revealed.

Or perhaps the gods had no intention of bringing Will back to life at all. Perhaps they were simply giving the two souls a little more time together before demanding their debt.
