Chris wakes up on the kitchen floor with a large bruise on his forehead and discovers that Ashley and Josh are missing. He searches the house for clues as to where they might be, which leads him outside to a large shed where he finds the duo tied to a wall with a saw on a track in front of them.

The Psycho begins speaking to them and instructs Chris to pull the lever in the direction of the person he wants to save. No matter what he chooses, the saw will always point toward Josh. The door then unlocks, allowing them to enter and untie Ashley, telling her not to look at Josh's body. Once back outside, they encounter Emily and Matt, struggling to tell them what happened in their panicked state. Emily suggests that Ashley and Chris search the house for Sam while she and Matt go for help.

Chris is a huge gadget lover and seems to spend half his life looking at his phone. He never lacks an app that can do this, that, or the other. He's loyal, analytical, and not easily frightened. Chris spends a lot of time with Ashley. They're very close friends, although Chris would like them to be even closer...

My character is Chris, and he's what society might consider the nerd of the group. And he kind of accepts it.

Described as methodical, protective, and humorous, Chris's three strongest traits are charity, humor, and curiosity. He is very affable and has a witty sense of humor that can be off-putting to his friends. He is analytical, not someone who believes in the occult, and is not easily frightened.

Chris is also a gadget lover and can't go long without looking at his phone screen. He dreams of being an app designer. He loves technology and can't stand being anywhere without internet access.

During the events of Until Dawn, it becomes clear that he is very protective and genuinely cares for his friends, as he insists on finding Sam and risks his life to rescue Josh. Depending on the player's choice, he can also sacrifice himself (though it is later shown that he is okay) to save Ashley from one of the Psycho's traps.

Chris seems to have trouble confessing his true feelings for his crush Ashley, making him the target of all of Josh's teasing.

Chris, along with Hannah, is one of the two members of the group who wears rectangular gray glasses. He has dark blond hair styled in a faux-hawk style.

In the Prologue, Chris wears a red plaid shirt and a pair of jeans.

A year later, he wears a light blue jacket layered over a green commando-style sweater, a blue collared shirt, and a white T-shirt with the text "COACH" and "loop" on it.

Later in the game, he receives a bruise on the left side of his forehead from one of the encounters with the Psycho. Depending on the player's actions, he may limp while fleeing from the Wendigo during Chapter 8, and he may also get a nosebleed if he fails the QTE to roll under a tree branch.

Christopher Hartley, known to his friends as Chris, is one of the eight main playable characters in Until Dawn. His voice and facial features are provided by actor Noah Fleiss.
