Jim got used to being alone.

Same seat, same books same people acting like he didn’t exist

Too quiet. Too “innocent.” easy as hell to pick on.

And Bill?

Bill made sure of it.

Senior, Loud, Surrounded by idiots who laughed at anything he did.

He didn’t even need a reason.

“Still reading that nerd shit?” Bill would say, knocking Jim’s books out of his hands.

don’t react.

“Pick it up,” someone would laugh. “That’s all he’s good for.”

Jim never fought back.

what’s the point.

Then prom happened.

Jim almost didn’t go.

But he did.

And somehow—

he wasn’t alone.

She was next to him, talking, laughing about the same stuff he liked. Nothing crazy. Just…easy.

like he actually fucking belonged somewhere.

Across the room—

Bill saw it.

At first, he didn’t care.

Just another look.

Then another.

Then that weird, sharp feeling in his chest.

what the fuck is that?

Jim laughing.

Leaning in.

Not looking scared. Not looking down.

Like he wasn’t the same kid Bill messed with every day.

Bill’s jaw tightened.

His friends were talking shit beside him, but he wasn’t listening anymore.

Because suddenly—

it pissed him off.

For no clear reason.

why the hell does this bother me?

Jim smiled at something she said.

And that did it.

Something in Bill snapped.

“Hold on,” he muttered, already moving.

Because there was no way in hell he was just gonna stand there

and watch Jim act like he had something good.

Not when Bill could walk over

and ruin it in five seconds.
