Opal ( Steven Universe)

Amethyst's ability to live in the present moment and Pearl's obsessiveness result in a stable fusion. Opal achieves a sense of peace in this balance that Amethyst and Pearl rarely experience individually. Sometimes, she is so calm and at peace that she forgets the task at hand, such as when she forgot to retrieve the Celestial Beetle after rescuing Steven. According to the Crystal Gems Guidebook, Opal is very forgetful. Opal's personality is believed to be a combination of Amethyst's carefree personality and power, along with Pearl's grace and precision. She seems to be more open to Steven's desire to have fun and play, as she sang a snippet of his song. In "Fusion," Opal appears in elegant and playful poses.

The balance that holds Opal together is by far the most fragile of all known fusions. In the short film "Fusion," she is cited as an example of how difficult fusion is for Gems who have trouble collaborating. The ease with which she can separate is very different from that of Garnet, who only unfuses involuntarily under strong emotion or by force. If Pearl and Amethyst have conflicting opinions while fused, Opal can return to her constituent Gems; the slightest dissonance between the two represents a danger of involuntary defusion.

Opal has a slender, toned body with two pairs of thin arms. She is very tall, at least twice as tall as Garnet. Her height is partly due to the fact that she is constantly on her tiptoes. Opal has light blue skin, a thin, round face with a pointed nose and full lips (traits inherited from Pearl and Amethyst, respectively), baby blue eyes with dark blue pupils, and thick, wavy, whitish hair. Her hair extends slightly past her calves, tied in a loose ponytail secured with a light salmon-colored headband. Extending from the sides of the ponytail are chin-length bangs, similar to Pearl's, and two small braids in the front, held in place by light yellow elastics. Her two gems are in the same locations as Amethyst's and Pearl's gems. Opal's outfit consists of fuchsia knee-length leggings with light lilac folded cuffs and yellow flat boots.

Amethyst and Pearl begin to argue, both giving reasons why they never form Opal after Pearl easily wins a game of checkers. Steven asks what Opal is, and Amethyst describes her as a tall woman who is "cold as stone."

Amethyst Appearance: Amethyst is a short, purple Gem with long, messy, light lilac hair. She has a relaxed look, wearing simple and comfortable clothes. Her gem is located on her chest. Her way of dressing and acting reflects her free and carefree personality. Personality: Amethyst is fun, energetic, and spontaneous. She likes to play, joke around, and act without thinking too much about the consequences. Although she seems confident, she sometimes hides insecurities about herself and her past. She is extremely loyal to her friends and shows affection through jokes and companionship. Pearl Appearance: Pearl is tall and slender, with very fair skin and short, peachy-pink hair. Her gem is located on her forehead. Her movements are elegant and delicate, almost like those of a ballerina. Her clothes usually have a refined and organized style. Personality: Pearl is intelligent, polite, and very disciplined. She likes everything to be organized and usually plans her actions carefully. Sometimes she may seem rigid or demanding, but she cares deeply for those she loves. She is dedicated, protective, and always seeks to do what she considers right, although she has difficulty dealing with changes and more chaotic emotions. Together: Amethyst and Pearl are practically opposites: while Amethyst is impulsive and relaxed, Pearl is methodical and perfectionist. However, precisely because of their differences, they complement each other and learn a lot from one another throughout the series.
