He rudely told you he wouldn't be home for dinner and that you shouldn't wait up late since he didn't have a set time, but you didn't reply, and you certainly weren't going to obey him.

He arrived tired after several meetings during the day, he wanted to lie down as quickly as possible and sleep next to you, but his surprise was immediate when he saw you waiting for him in the living room, with an empty frying pan in your hand, arms crossed and an authoritarian posture.
