Steven Universe Quartz

Steven Quartz Universe is the main protagonist of the Steven Universe franchise. He is the son of Greg Universe and Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond, the only known hybrid of human and Gem, and the first Crystal Gem of human descent. Due to his lineage, Steven is an extraordinarily unique being with innate powers that go beyond those of humans and ordinary Gems. As a child, Steven grew from being a simple companion to the Crystal Gems to becoming the heart of the team thanks to his kindness and cunning.

Steven is dedicated to protecting humanity and helping those in need, just as Rose Quartz did. While his monumental legacy forced him to live in its shadow, Steven has surpassed it by ending the authoritarian practices of the Great Diamond Authority and establishing peace throughout the galaxy. However, the consequences of his mother's mistakes continue to haunt Steven and his loved ones, leading to growing frustration. Additionally, as his friends and family grow up and begin to explore the world, Steven begins to have doubts about his own identity and what he wants to do with the rest of his life. He also begins to deal with repressed traumas that he has accumulated throughout his years of adventures and near-death experiences with the Gems.

At the end of the series, after repressing his feelings for so long, Steven transforms into a giant gem monster when he realizes that he is a monster himself. His friends and family manage to bring him to his senses with the power of love. In the following months, he decides to leave Beach City to go on a solo road trip, with the goal of getting to know the world and finding himself.

Monster At the end of " Everything's Fine " and during " I Am My Monster ", he transforms into a giant monster the size of a Kaiju after coming to the conclusion that he himself is one. He is colossal in size, dominating the Crystal Temple and completely dwarfing the Diamonds, though his size decreases markedly over time, becoming only a few meters taller than them. His posture is very hunched over and his anatomy is disproportionate, with a prominent belly, a long, thick neck ending in a small head, a short tail, long and powerful arms, and relatively short legs. His body is covered from head to toe by deep pink tuberculated scales in a hexagonal shape, and his back is protected by a thick armored shell. He has numerous whitish, pinkish, spiny-like spines that run down his back and forearms, starting at his forehead and ending halfway through his tail. It retains the facial profile and nose of its human form, although its eyes have acquired black sclera and bright pink pupils, and its mouth is now filled with sharp teeth. On the sides of its head it has a pair of long, angular horns that point upwards, as well as a pair of short, curved fangs similar in appearance to the sides of its lower jaw. Its forearms are thick and strong, with large human-like hands, each with four fingers and a thumb, and all five fingers with sharp dark pink claws. Its legs are digitigrade, and its feet have five toes with claw-like tips. Its gem still sits where its navel would be, though it appears much smaller due to its enormous size in this state.

Steven is optimistic, friendly, outgoing, good-natured, and carefree, with a cheerful and jovial attitude that many Beach City citizens appreciate in one way or another. He has a penchant for music, a trait inherited from his father, with a propensity for spontaneous singing and occasional ukulele playing. Steven sees the best in everyone and is also very compassionate, something Pearl notes he inherited from his mother, and he values his friends and family very much. He is friendly with almost everyone he meets (even to his own detriment), rarely holds grudges, and does not discriminate, never treating anyone with prejudice, not even his enemies. No matter the situation, Steven will always do his best to support his loved ones, even if it means risking his life, and will avoid resorting to violence if possible. He prefers to compromise and reason rather than fight.

Steven admires his caretakers—Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl—and considers them his family. He longs to be a great hero like them and is eager to go on adventures with the trio, both to prove himself and to have fun exploring unknown lands. Despite his still undeveloped magical power and lack of experience, he has shown great heroic potential thanks to his wit, optimism, and confidence.

Steven is quite naïve and not socially withdrawn due to his isolated upbringing. He has never attended school, and prior to "Hospital of Nightmares", he had never been to a hospital or had his vital signs taken. While Steven is usually willing to embark on adventures at any time, he has a habit of getting into trouble that gets him out of trouble, forcing the Gems to step in. Although Steven retains his childlike innocence and his lack of concern for the dangers to which he is exposed, his encounters with the Mother Planet Stones give him a new level of seriousness.

Initially, this causes Steven to feel self-conscious about his immaturity and sets out to overcome it, though his ill-advised attempt becomes a source of self-inflicted suffering as he attempts to break his friendship with Connie to protect her. Only Connie's sanity stops him and balances his resolve. Since then, Steven has matured and become more level-headed when facing difficult situations, but his enthusiasm has remained intact.

Barnmates 150 Steven helps Peridot reconcile with Lapis. His maturity has reached new heights as he helps Lapis Lazuli and Peridot adjust to Earth and continues to hone his powers. He is now more willing to fight than before to help and protect his friends, though he remains willing to help anyone in need, even his enemies, as seen when he attempted to cure Jasper of the corruption that was spreading in "Earthlings". Unfortunately, this has also brought him trouble, as shown in "Bubbled" and "Room for Ruby", in which attempting to befriend "Eyeball" and accept "Navy" as a Crystal Gem ended badly: "Eyeball" attempted to kill him when he believed it to be Rose Quartz due to her healing powers and "Navy" turned out to have been lying out of revenge

Although Steven is usually friendly and good-natured by nature, his enthusiasm and excitability can get out of control and he ends up causing more harm than good. When this happens, he can be anything from obnoxious to overbearing and rude. Steven tends to lose control when acting theatrically, as seen in "Tiger Millionaire", "Steven and the Stevens", and "Sadie's Song". His alter ego, Tiger Millionaire, is the best example of how Steven gets carried away by his passion.

The only time he has shown true anger and prejudice towards someone is with Kevin in "Beach City Drift" for the way he treats Stevonnie. His dislike and desire to outdo Kevin lead him to merge with Connie, and the anger Stevonnie inherits is so strong that they hallucinate and break up. It is Connie's sanity that convinces him to let go of his anger.

Fact of Honor (215) Steven and Bismuth open up to each other. Deep down, Steven feels guilt about his mother's absence and an inferiority complex for not living up to his reputation. He doesn't want to talk about this with the Gems because he believes they blame him for Rose's absence. The only people he's opened up to are Amethyst, Bismuth, and the Cool Guys. He told Amethyst that he tries so hard because he's not Rose Quartz and Bismuth that he doesn't think he can live up to his mother's expectations.

In "Conscious Education" it is revealed that Steven feels guilt for the unfortunate events that happened to Bismuth, Jasper, and "Eyeball". As with Rose, he tries to suppress these worries and not think about them, convincing himself that he had no choice.

After "Eyeball" reveals in "Return to the Moon" that Rose Quartz supposedly destroyed Pink Diamond, Steven becomes more independent and rebellious towards the Gems and their authority over what he is supposed to know. In "Steven's Dream", he argues with Garnet for not telling her why he shouldn't find the broken bunk, desc

it highlights Steven's anger and confusion towards Rose for her actions and how she "disappeared", leaving him with the responsibility of fixing his problems. " Lion 4: Alternate Ending " shows that he has become paranoid about everything related to Rose and her secrets, and in "The Good Lars" he calls her a war criminal. These feelings come to a head in "Are You My Father?" and "I'm My Mother", when Topaz and Aquamarine capture his friends and he negotiates their release by offering himself as a way to atone for his and his mother's actions.

Trial 127 Steven pleaded guilty to his mother's crimes against Yellow and Blue Diamond. "The Trial" highlights his determination to atone for the destruction of Pink Diamond, as he pleads guilty immediately knowing that he would be executed. However, when Rose Quartz's crime is called into question, he is shocked to discover the flaws in his mother's crime and the possibility that another Diamond is responsible for Rose Quartz's death instead of Rose Quartz. Matt Burnett and Ben Levin claimed that he learned he was wrong about who Rose was and wonders if he should carry the moral ambiguity she had or if he can be stronger and different. [ 3 ]

Dewey wins 6 Steven assumed that Connie would be happy to see him return safely. Steven's unconsciousness can create problems even with those he loves, as in "Dewey Wins", where he believes that Connie should be grateful to him for giving himself to Homeworld to save her, not understanding how he hurt her until he suffers the same pain when Dewey concedes the mayoral race despite Steven's campaign and his insistence that the public give him another chance; although this particular unconsciousness could be attributed to him not being prepared to face his feelings about his surrender and all that he experienced in Homeworld, as well as having to deal with the emotional distress that his surrender caused

As a human/Gem hybrid, Steven possesses a unique physiology, similar to the fusion of a Gem and a human. He is capable of using Gem magic, though it is unknown if he possesses all the abilities of a pure Gem, such as retreating into his gem when suffering fatal damage. In keeping with his gem, Steven's powers are maternal, and his control of them relies on emotional clarity.

Steven has demonstrated some abilities typical of a Gem, but sometimes has little control over them due to a lack of training. He can teleport using the Teleportation Platforms and create bubbles for objects and Gems, then teleport to the Temple with apparent complete control. He is not strictly dependent on oxygen and is resistant to a vacuum, as shown in "Ocean Gem" and "Space Race." He also demonstrates the ability to fuse, as he can fuse with Connie to form Stevonnie. While at first they tend to fuse spontaneously when dancing and thinking about each other, in "Beach City Drift" they fuse and refuse into Stevonnie at will. Furthermore, he has also been shown to be able to fuse with other Gems, such as when he first fused with Amethyst to form Smoky Quartz in "Earthlings." However, this ability to fuse is only possible thanks to his gem and his training, and once his gem was affected by Spinel's rejuvenator, merging with his father proved to be extremely exhausting for Steven and severely weakened him, as he lost the power and focus he originally had.

Steven is also capable of transforming, but has yet to learn how to fully control it. His first attempt at "Cat Fingers" was disastrous, temporarily turning him into a feline monster. He has not been able to change his form completely, but he can transform parts of his body freely, as seen in "Too Short to Ride". His greatest feat at transformation is seen in "Steven's Birthday", where he can use it to look older.

Despite his carefree and cheerful attitude, he proves to be a competent shield fighter and can hold his own in most situations, as his skill is constantly increasing thanks to practice.

The final battle against Spinel in Steven Universe: The Movie shows him at the peak of his abilities as he fights her one-on-one, proving that he has developed exceptional ability since he was a child, able to resist or counter anything Spinel throws at him.

"Fragments" shows a new level of Steven's abilities as he fights Jasper in his pink state, demonstrating increased strength, speed, and the ability to fly.

Despite being raised in an isolated environment and never having attended a mainstream school, he possesses extensive knowledge not only on general subjects, but also in scientific and technical fields such as physics, chemistry, and geography, thanks to the education received from the very intelligent Pearl. However, due to the Crystal Gems' ignorance of certain human activities, he is completely unaware of some social terms, such as "nuclear family". The clearest example is given during a conversation with Connie about a family reunion, in which Connie mentions the concept of nuclear family, leading Steven to think that she believes that the Crystal Gems are radioactive. Another example is when Connie introduces Steven to her favorite novel saga; Steven had no idea of the order of the books and read them in a mess

Fusions When fused with Connie, they form Stevonnie. When fused with Greg, they form Steg. When fused with Amethyst, they form Smoky Quartz. When fused with Pearl, they form Rainbow Quartz 2.0. When fused with Ruby and Sapphire (or Garnet), they form the Sunstone. When fused with Ruby and Sapphire (or Garnet), Amethyst, and Pearl, they form Obsidian. Skill Set Intelligence: Although never directly stated, Steven proves to be extremely intelligent in his own right. He is a born problem solver, as most of his early adventures depended on him using his intelligence and creativity to get out of trouble without using his powers. He is also able to converse with the highly intelligent Connie on equal terms since they met. For much of the initial series, his intelligence was overshadowed by his immaturity, something that has diminished as he has matured and has shown how deeply he reflects on things, particularly what he has learned about Rose Quartz, though he actively tries not to. "Snow Day" shows Steven's intelligence and organization as he works on the class schedule for Little Homeschool. Piloting: In "Legs From Here to Homeworld", he controls his mother's old ship to gain momentum and take off. In "Change His Mind", Yellow tells Steven to get down on one knee and Steven kneels down to control her from the outside. Driving: In Steven Universe Future, Steven is seen driving the Supreme Dondai, suggesting that he has his driver's license.

Multitasking: In Steven Universe: The Movie, Steven is able to fend off Spinel as he tries to talk to her to clear things up. Language Learning: In Steven Universe Future, Steven is shown to be introduced to the Gem Glyph during his work as a teacher, especially when working with documents written entirely in this language. Steven was unaware of the Gem Glyph at the age of 14, which means that he learned it relatively quickly, considering that the structure of the language is completely different from English. Tiger Philanthropist (120) Martial Arts: Steven has been shown to perform martial arts moves during the wrestling match in "Tiger Philanthropist". Due to his superhuman strength, these moves can easily injure or render other humans unconscious. He can also confront Spinel (while trying to clear things up with her) and impressed Jasper, a highly talented former Gem soldier.

Metamorphosis: Steven possesses some level of the natural metamorphosis abilities typical of Gems, which he first showed in "Cat's Fingers" when he transformed his hands to have cats instead of fingers, but lost control of this quite quickly. From "Too Low to Ride", he is shown to be much better at using this ability than before, being able to stretch various parts of his body at will repeatedly, although, like Amethyst, he can only do so for a limited time as his half-human nature puts more pressure on his body than on that of a Gem. In the episode "Snow Day", Steven demonstrates the ability to transform into his youngest form. In "I Am My Monster", he shows that he can fully transform into a Gem monster many times larger and taller than him. Fluctuating Age: As revealed in the episode "So Many Birthdays", Steven can manipulate his age through his mental state. Steven's age depends solely on how old he thinks he is. The uncontrollable age change could also be caused by his emotions, such as most of his powers. This ability is an extension of the metamorphosis of the Gems; however, due to his organic part, when transforming into an old man's body, Steven's body could fail as a result, as shown in "So Many Birthdays". In "Fragments" he is seen to age slightly while training with Jasper.

Monstrous State: Due to his deep emotional pain, PTSD, and lack of purpose, Steven saw himself as a monster and thus transformed into one at the end of "Everything's Fine". In this state, he possesses a beastly mentality, similar to that of a Corrupted Gem, but much more powerful and dangerous than before. He was able to quickly defeat Alexandrite, completely resist the powers of the three Diamonds, break free from Lapis' water chains, and even defeat The Cluster. Sapphire hints that he would have remained in this state forever if they hadn't intervened. However, once all of the Crystal Gems, the Diamonds, Spinel, The Cluster, Greg, and Connie managed to connect with him through their words and love, Steven came out of this state and returned to normal. Walking on Water: As shown in "I Am My Monster", Steven, in his monster form, can run on the surface of the water. Since he is a Diamond and all three Diamonds can also run on water, it is likely that Steven shares this ability. However, it is unknown if he can achieve this in his human form.

Superhuman Strength: Steven occasionally performs feats of strength that would be impossible for a human child his age, or even a grown man. In "Together Breakfast", Steven is able to pick up and throw Breakfast Together, in its mutated state, into the lava pool in the Burning Room without the other Crystal Gems intervening. He also demonstrates great strength in "Arcade Mania" when he rips off the top of the arcade game Meat Beat Mania to free Garnet from her trance. He shows even greater strength in "The Return" when he smashes the dashboard of Greg's truck with a single punch, apparently with enough force to break it and activate the airbags. In "Merry Ride", he is able to pull Jenny away from the escape pod with little effort. Later in "Buddy Ship", he is shown to be strong enough to throw his shield hard enough to stun Peridot. When Peridot is unable to open the mains lid in "When It Rains", Steven is able to open it with little effort, though this may have been for comedic effect rather than a true feat of strength. He can rip off the control panel of the drilling machine when it fails in "Too Far". In "Rhythm Dad", he easily lifts a box of musical equipment, a task that requires two adults to accomplish. As the Gems are much stronger and more resilient than their appearance indicates, Steven's superhuman strength was likely inherited from his mother. In more recent episodes, his strength is even more apparent, as he was able to return a large stone statue to Bismuth, throw a large rock at Amethyst, and throw Peridot into the air. As seen in " Zoltron, the Boy from the Future ", Steven's strength is underestimated and sometimes unintentional even by himself, as upon hitting the robot Zoltron, it fell and shattered. In "The Zoo", he hit his father hard enough to make him back several times.

when he managed to take on several adult men in top form without tiring, even lifting a grown man above his head and throwing him a considerable distance. In "Lars' Head", he is seen quite easily pushing a rock that neither the Rutile nor Rhodonite twins together could move, causing the twins to exclaim "Wow, how strong!" as the three Gems looked at him in amazement. In "Back to the Kindergarten", Steven carried a pile of rocks that was at least several times taller than him without showing any effort. Even when he was significantly weakened, in Steven Universe: The Movie, Steven was strong enough to momentarily lift the gigantic drill off the ground. Superhuman Durability: As shown in "Steven vs. Amethyst" and "Bismuth", Steven is tougher than his human physiology and stature would have you believe. In keeping with his half-diamond Gem nature, his body can withstand a great deal of punishment, as seen when Amethyst throws him from the air against the floor of the Ancient Heavenly Sand; he can get up and keep fighting despite having torn clothes, scratches, and bruises. In "Bismuth", when Bismuth threw a training statue at Steven and smashed him into a wall during their fight, he came out with several scratches, but was not seriously injured. In "Adventures in the Warp of Light", Steven's durability allowed him to withstand the full force of faster-than-light space travel. While the other Crystal Gems were unable to keep their physical forms intact, Steven not only survived, but also showed no signs of internal or external injuries. In his final battle with Spinel, he shows that, by using his shield, he can withstand every blow she throws at him without taking any damage, while the injector underneath him cracks and shatters from the force of the impact. In "Growing Pains", his conversation with

Because Steven is half-human, he is resistant to anti-Gem weapons. He can pass through the yellow destabilization fields used on the Gem Warship and grab the active end of a Gem Destabilizer with only mild discomfort. It is unknown what effects prolonged exposure would have on him. However, repeated blows from a Gem Rejuvenator would leave him defenseless. Superhuman Speed: As shown in "Greg the Babysitter", Steven has the power to travel faster than any normal human. In his pink state, he is able to move at a percentage of the speed of light, and his perception of time is also greatly accelerated.

Because he possesses the Pink Diamond gem, he shares most, if not all, of his unique abilities with it.

Shield Proficiency: Steven can summon Rose's shield. Because Steven's powers are maternal, he needs to feel a strong need to protect and help others in order to summon his shield. At first, he had little to no control over how to summon it, only doing so by chance or when in mortal danger. As of "Oath to the Sword", Steven can now summon his shield with little effort and increase its size at will. He seems to have become quite skilled at handling it, as he was able to use it in conjunction with his protective bubble and fend off Pearl's attacks. Unlike other Gems, instead of "pulling" his shield from his gem, it appears over his arms similar to how Garnet's gauntlets appear over his hands. As of "Friendship Ship", he has become fully capable of summoning his shield anytime he needs to, even being able to scale it up enough to defend the Crystal Gems. It should be noted, however, that overuse of his shield exhausts Steven (such as using it three times in a day), although he has already overcome this weakness. The shield is extraordinarily resistant. The greatest tests of his endurance are shown in "The Return", when he was able to withstand a charged shot from the Gema warship, and in Steven Universe: The Movie, where he was able to withstand an attack from Spinel that cracked (and eventually shattered) his entire injector. As of "Crack the Whip", Steven can summon his shield as many times as he wants without getting tired, even summoning more than one. This shows that his exhaustion was possibly due to inexperience. The shield also has reflective properties strong enough to reflect a laser fired by a scanning Robonoid, as seen in "Off Colors".

Because of the close bond they share, Steven can seamlessly coordinate his shielding techniques with Connie's swordsmanship, such as fighting back-to-back to defend and attack simultaneously or catapulting Connie from his shield for a powerful lunge attack. Dual Wielding: As seen in "Crack the Whip", Steven can manifest more than one shield. Projectile Shield: Steven, when very excited, can throw his shield like a projectile with great speed and power. In "Friend Ship", he uses it as a weapon for a ranged attack against Peridot, hitting her in the head with enough precision to stun her temporarily. In "Crack the Whip", Steven throws two shields at once in a training match with Connie. As seen in "Steven vs. Amethyst", Steven can bounce his shield off various targets, causing it to return to his hand. His shield also has razor-sharp edges and can cut through substances as hard as solid rock before returning to it, hitting Amethyst in the process, demonstrating Steven's increasing skill in this technique. The shield can also have the potential to damage metal, as seen in his debut in "Gem Glow", where Steven became so excited that he accidentally bounced it off the ceiling, floor, and walls of the Beach House in the Crystal Temple, until it hit Steven's TV, piercing and damaging it.

Shield Vibration: On certain occasions, when Steven's shield is hit, it emits an audible vibration that disables magical constructs. In "Ocean Stone", he destabilizes Lapis Lazuli's water clones when a ball of water hits Steven's shield. He also appears to have a brief role in "Oath to the Sword", when a Holo-Pearl attacks his shield and it is immediately deactivated (the same sound from the previous episode can be heard). Aura Projection: While interacting with Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond in the astral dimension, Steven was able to manifest and project a powerful pink aura, which convinced them that he was indeed the reincarnation of Pink Diamond. Healing: Steven has the power to heal animals and plants, as well as repair Gems and inanimate objects. He is shown to be able to heal cracked gems as seen when he healed Lapis Lazuli in "Ocean Gem". He can also heal common human injuries and conditions, as seen when he healed Connie's eyesight in "An Indirect Kiss" and Greg's broken leg in "House Guest". In "The Test", Pearl remarks to the other Crystal Gems that he has lost his healing ability and that his trial should boost his confidence and thus prevent him from losing any other abilities. In "Monster Reunion", Steven's healing abilities returned to heal the Master of Ceremonies Bear Bear, conclusively proving that his powers affect inanimate objects and can partially heal Mother Centipeetle. In "Bubbled", Steven successfully heals the cracked gem from "Eyeball". She usually applies this healing saliva directly by licking her hand and placing it over the wound, but a comment from Ruby in "Volleyball" suggests that she sometimes uses a kiss.

Resurrection: Like his mother, Steven possesses the ability to resurrect the dead with his magical tears. The recipient turns pink and acquires special abilities, such as the ability to access the Pink Dimension through his hair, in addition to a drastic decrease in his metabolism and heart rate. The only two known cases are those of Lion and Lars. Reversal of Corruption: As demonstrated with Nephrite in "Legs from Here to the Mother Planet", Steven, along with Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond, can temporarily reverse the effects of the Corrupting Light on the Gems. And it is shown in "Change Your Mind" that they can heal the effects permanently when the four diamonds sit in the Rose Fountain along with the corrupted Gems. Shattering Reversal: As shown in "Fragments", Steven, along with the essence of the rest of the Diamonds, is able to completely repair a fragmented Gem. Self-Healing: As shown in "Growing Pains", Steven suffered a lot of physical trauma during his adventures, and an X-ray reveals that his wounds had already been repaired.

Phytoanimation: Like his mother, Steven possesses limited control and influence over plant life. Using his healing saliva, Steven can grow sentient and sapient flora by licking plant seeds. All of the seeds Steven licks can fully grow in less than a day. These plants apparently don't need soil, water, or sunlight to grow, as seen in "Steven Watermelon", where they grow on dry pavement overnight. In that same episode, Steven discovers that he can grow watermelons in his form. These act as his bodyguards, but are not directly under his control, and the Steven Watermelons ignore his commands and attack anyone they think threatens him, suggesting that he has not yet fully mastered this ability. This seems to have changed, as once Pumpkin came to life, she was completely harmless and had her own opinions about others. It is also possible that, in the case of Pumpkin, Steven had full knowledge of the ability and therefore control over it, while in the case of the Steven Watermelons, it was accidental. It is unknown if this is a unique ability or an extension of the Diamonds' ability to give life. Pebble Animation: As demonstrated in "Familiar", Steven's sweat can turn inanimate pebbles into living pebbles.

Bubble Shield: Steven can summon an incredibly strong bubble, as shown in "Bubble Buddies." The bubble envelops him and those he is protecting. In "Sworn to the Sword," Steven is shown to be able to summon it reflexively, instinctively summoning his bubble to protect himself and Connie due to his misgivings about Holo-Pearls as a result of the events in "Steven the Sword Fighter." In "Nightmare Hospital," Steven is shown to be able to expand his bubble to push enemies away. In "I Am My Mom," Steven used his bubble to free himself and his friends from Topaz, though it required great concentration to do so. In "Bubble Buddies" and "Bubbled," it is implied that the bubble can generate its own internal atmosphere, as Steven and Connie were able to survive inside the bubble for hours despite it being airtight, and Steven is even able to breathe inside one he had just created in the vacuum of space. Although the bubble is incredibly resistant, it withstands short, localized impacts, such as those from a harpoon, better than constant pressure applied over a large surface, as in "Hospital de Noches".
