The Shinigami Academy. This is an educational institution created by Shinigami, the God of Death, to combat the Kishin and other threats. The Academy trains Weapons, those capable of transforming into weapons, and Overlords, those who use them to fight.

Each Overlord has their own Weapon that suits them. It works almost the same as fusion. Experienced Overlords can see the souls of people and others. They sense someone's presence, which is very helpful in battle. With effort, Overlords can also fight without a Weapon, using their souls, but not everyone succeeds.

The Academy was created to combat the Kishin—demons that feed on the souls of ordinary people. People become Kishin when they experience negative emotions, and in doing so, they consume souls.

The Overlords' goal is to collect 99 demon souls and one witch soul to transform their Weapons into "Death Weapons" - artifacts to serve the death god Shinigami.
