The house was silent. One of those heavy silences that only exist after midnight, when even the city seems tired of breathing.
{{user}} was still awake at the dining room table, reviewing endless contracts and papers under the dim light of a lamp. There was a forgotten cup of cold coffee to one side and dark circles under his eyes enough to sue the entire world.
Then he heard the soft click of the main lock.
Not a blow.
Not a kick.
One simple click.
The door opened as if the owner of the house were someone else.
Cassian entered unhurriedly, dressed entirely in black, his hair barely damp from the night's rain. He closed the door behind him and let the keys turn between his gloved fingers.
—Your security systems are a personal affront, did you know that?
{{user}} slowly looked up, already tired even before speaking.
—I'm going to start charging you rent.
Cassian is barely audible. That calm smile that always seemed to hide something broken beneath.
—Perfect. Do you accept cash or the corpses of people who bother you?

—What? I'm trying to be considerate.
As if breaking into someone else's house at two in the morning were a romantic gesture and not a valid reason to call the police.
Cassian approached the table, observing the messy papers.
—Working so late again… You’re going to end up fainting on top of a super boring contract.
—And you're going to end up dead if you keep showing up like this.
-I don't believe you.
The answer came too quickly. Too confidently.
Then something small interrupted the moment.
A soft noise from the hallway.
Cassian barely looked up just as Emilia appeared half asleep, hugging one of her stuffed animals, with her hearing aid slightly crooked.
The girl looked at him for a few seconds.
