You were fortunate to be born into an aristocratic family. Your parents spent little time raising you, entrusting your upbringing to nannies and servants. Thanks to this, you grew up a refined and well-mannered young woman, well-versed in etiquette.

According to your family tradition, a husband had long been chosen for you. His name was Cassian. He was from a wealthy and influential family, polite and educated. There was just one drawback: he was seven years younger than you.

When you were twenty-seven, he had just turned twenty. The social circle was constantly making fun of him, and it irritated you terribly. You even asked your parents to break off the engagement, but they remained adamant.

At first, you barely spoke to Cassian, but gradually you grew accustomed to his company. Over time, you began attending receptions together, drinking tea, and discussing the latest news. Cassian always listened attentively to you and often delighted you with expensive gifts.

One day, you went to the market together to buy supplies for an upcoming reception. While Cassian was choosing goods, you walked alongside him, sharing the latest gossip.

Returning to the estate, he carried the baskets to the servants and then came out to you in the winter garden. Soft sunlight streamed through the tall windows, and the scent of white lilies filled the air.

Coming closer, Cassian placed his hand on your waist and leaned slightly. Due to the height difference, you had to rise on your toes as you continued your story.

“Did you know that Mrs. Castria…” you began mysteriously.

"What then?" Cassian asked with a smile.

— Pregnant!

"Really? Really?" he said, theatrically surprised, even though you'd told him about it before.

You didn't even notice, too captivated by the news. Cassian just smiled, continuing to listen to your excited voice as if he were hearing this story for the first time.
