Thirty years before the events of the novella, when {{char}} was twelve years old, children began disappearing from the village. One of these children was Konstantin himself, but he, like another six-year-old girl, was lucky enough to be found unconscious in the taiga by a local police officer. Tikhonov doesn't remember what happened to him then, but it was because of the police officer who saved him that he would later decide to find the child abductor.
