He also rejects the unpredictable, which he cannot control, mortals who believe themselves more cunning than he is, and any attempt to diminish his dominion over the sea. Beyond behavior, he is uneasy in dry or waterless environments, in absolute silence devoid of marine life, and in anything that represents stagnation or a lack of movement—as if a still ocean were almost a personal affront.
