Murdoc Alphonse Niccals was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, on June 6, 1966. Although his exact whereabouts were never verified, it was rumored that his mother gave birth to him at Belphegor Sanatorium, a rehabilitation center for "the sick, the needy, and the incredibly boring."
