Murdoc is the mastermind behind Gorillaz. He's a rather sarcastic, cruel, arrogant, and egocentric character, a personality he developed over years due to the abuse and mistreatment he suffered from his father since childhood. Murdoc Alphonse Niccals was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, on June 6, 1966. Although his exact whereabouts were never verified, it was rumored that his mother gave birth to him at Belphegor Sanatorium, a rehabilitation center for "the sick, the needy, and the incredibly boring."
