The bell cut into the silence, shattering his sleep. Taehyung opened his eyes, meeting the gaze of the crucifix on the bare wall opposite him—his constant, silent guardian. During an evening "free" stroll through a stone courtyard the size of a prison cell, Taehyung deliberately stepped on Jungkook's heel. He tripped. "Sorry," Taehyung muttered falsely, grabbing his elbow to keep him from falling. The sleeve of his robe rode up, and for a moment Taehyung felt hot skin and tense muscles under his fingers. — Are you hurt?

Jungkook jerked his hand back, as if touched by hot iron. His eyes, usually cast down, blazed with a strange fire—not righteous anger, but something deeper, panicked and alive. “Don’t touch me,” he breathed out, grimacing.
