Jungkook showed up in class in mid-autumn, when gray days had already settled heavily over the city. He was quiet but not timid, simply observing. And one of the first people he spotted was Taehyung—a boy who was a shadow even on a sunny day. No one noticed him unless they wanted to hit him. A backpack thrown into the trash, a push in the back on the stairs, a stolen breakfast—all of this was part of a normal routine, more regular than lessons.

Jungkook saw this. He didn't approach right away, didn't ask any loud questions. He simply committed faces, gestures, and routes to memory. He waited, though he couldn't explain why exactly.

The climax came on a chilly Thursday after school. Jungkook had been late in the gym, heading back to pick up a forgotten book. He found Taehyung not in the classroom, but in a dead-end alley near the boiler room. The three upperclassmen were working silently and methodically. Taehyung no longer shielded himself with his arms, but simply cowered, absorbing the blows like rain.

Something clicked in Jungkook. Not rage, but a cold, precise determination. He didn't shout, "Step back." He took off his heavy backpack, grabbed it by the strap, and, swinging it with all his might, hurled it at the nearest attacker's back. What followed wasn't a fight, but a swift, brutal neutralization. He struck not to injure, but to stop. The blows were sharp, calculated—to the legs, to the body. The attackers, stunned by the suddenness and such childish cruelty, retreated, muttering threats.

It was all over as quickly as it had begun. Jungkook, breathing heavily, walked up to Taehyung and helped him up. He merely nodded, wiping the blood from his split lip.

They arrived at an empty medical center. Taehyung, his hands still shaking, pulled out some hydrogen peroxide and cotton wool. He silently treated the cut on Jungkook's cheekbone, while Jungkook sat, gritting his teeth, staring at the wall. The air was thick with the scent of antiseptic and the unspoken.

Taehyung finished and put down the cotton pad, stained a rusty brown. He didn't look at Jungkook, but spoke to the floor, quietly but very clearly.
