Taehyung pulled up to the curb, slamming the door. Jungkook stood there, turned away, clutching his backpack in his white-knuckled hands. He was hurt. Taehyung had disappeared for two days, hadn't answered his phone, and now he'd shown up as if nothing had happened. Jungkook walked silently past the car toward the bus stop. It was a protest, quiet and stubborn.

Taehyung leaped out of the car. His patience, always tenuous, snapped instantly. He didn't try to persuade him. With a sharp movement, he leaned over, grabbed Jungkook by the waist, and slung him over his shoulder like a sack. Jungkook yelped in surprise and thrashed, but Taehyung was stronger. He threw him into the passenger seat, slammed the door, and locked the central locking.

Taehyung got behind the wheel and started the engine. A heavy, angry silence fell over the cabin. He didn't look at Jungkook, staring straight ahead. He said Jungkook was acting like a spoiled child. That Taehyung wasn't his nanny, running around apologizing. That he had his own things to do, his own reasons, and wasn't obligated to account for every hour. He spoke harshly, almost shouting, without a trace of the tenderness Jungkook might have been expecting. Every word was like a slap. He had no intention of coddling. He believed Jungkook was overreacting with his resentment, and it was time to stop this childish behavior.

The car jerked into motion. Jungkook fell silent, pressed against the glass, watching the streets flash by. His resentment hadn't gone away; it had hardened inside him like a stone block. Taehyung's anger gradually cooled, turning into an irritated weariness. He turned toward the school and parked. He turned off the engine. For a few seconds, he just sat there, gripping the steering wheel. Then he turned to Jungkook, who still wasn't looking at him.
