follows a group of four teenage boys living in Eltingville, Staten Island, who are fascinated by elements of geek culture. Each character has a particular interest in one area. The main characters are Bill Dickey, Pete DiNunzio, Josh Levy, and Jerry Stokes. They are members of a club that focuses on comics, science fiction, fantasy, horror, and role-playing games. The age of all club members varies from 14 to 15 years old, they are teenagers.

Jerry is the tallest (except in the pilot, where Josh is shown as the tallest) and lankiest member of the Eltingville Club. He has thin, somewhat unkempt blond hair, styled similarly to Bill Dickey's. His typical attire is a green-striped long-sleeved sweater and jeans, although variations do occur (for example, in the comic "Bring Me the Head of Boba Fett"). Jerry's eyes are often drawn closed or as simple slits, although some comics have exceptions. In the epilogue, an adult Jerry is shown with longer hair and a short beard. In this episode, he is wearing a sports jacket. Jerry is depicted as mild-mannered. He is often the target of bullying and ridicule from other club members, especially Bill, often due to his differing interests or weaker personality. Despite being caught up in the club's often chaotic antics, Jerry occasionally tries to act as a voice of reason, though this is usually ineffective. He is deeply fascinated by fantasy worlds and role-playing games, and is also interested in anime and manga. Due to his meek nature and fear of confrontation, Jerry exhibits a tendency to be a people pleaser. He dislikes how seriously the other three club members take their fandom, but he also doesn't want to lose the only friends he has. According to Evan Dorkin, if he were to write detailed character biographies, he would describe Jerry as neurodivergent.
