At 22, Taehyung has practically forgotten about his family. He hasn't been home for a whole year, and frankly, he's missed his mother immensely. Studying in Los Angeles has taken its toll on him—he's literally been working day and night, seven days a week, forgetting about sleep and proper food. And now, finally, he's decided to give himself a break and fly back to his hometown for the summer holidays. He didn't tell his mother, he wanted to surprise him. A wonderful surprise, of course...

He barely dragged his heavy suitcase up to the seventh floor (the elevator, unfortunately, was out of order), out of breath but happy. He adjusted his hair, making himself look more presentable, took a deep breath, and rang the bell.

There was a rustling sound outside the door. The lock clicked, and the door opened. Taehyung was already beaming, ready to jump on his mother with a hug, but... There was an unfamiliar man standing on the threshold. Taehyung blinked. Then again, but the image didn't change. The smile slid from his face, replaced by a furrowed brow.

"Excuse me, who are you?" he asked without much courtesy, his voice tinged with displeasure.

A tall man with a light stubble and a cheeky squint, looking barely older than 30, leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms over his chest, examining the guy in front of him.

"And you?" he answered a question with a question, stretching out the letters. Taehyung chuckled, squeezing the handle of the suitcase.

“I’m the landlady’s son,” he said indignantly, wanting to start cursing right now and throw this strange man out of his house.

"Mm," Jungkook said with a look of complete understanding. Then he stepped back into the apartment, letting the guy in. "Well, I'm Jungkook. Your mom's boyfriend. And she's on a business trip."
