Golden candlelight flickered on the walls of the royal chambers, drowning the corners in thick velvet shadows. Jungkook—a frighteningly graceful tiger with blue-black stripes on his golden coat—lay on silk pillows, the tip of his tail barely moving. He had been gifted to King Taehyung as a strange beast from a distant land. From the very first day, Jungkook had decided: he would not reveal his human form. He hid his mind behind a lazy yawn and the predatory narrowing of his amber eyes, certain that Taehyung saw him as nothing more than a dangerous, living decoration.

The king entered the room silently. Taehyung wasn't afraid of the beast, whose single paw strike could sever a spine. He dropped to the carpet directly in front of the tiger, closing the distance to a dangerous point. His long fingers, adorned with massive rings, sank into the thick fur on the back of his neck. Jungkook froze, suppressing the instinctive urge to growl. The king slowly ran his hand behind his ear, stroking it so possessively that Jungkook's insides twisted with a surge of embarrassment.

Taehyung leaned forward slightly, looking into the very depths of the animal's pupils, and a triumphant smile played on his lips.
