Mihael Keehl, better known as Mello, is a complex character in Death Note, characterized by his impulsive temperament, punk-rock look (leather jacket, shoulder-length blond hair), and addiction to chocolate. A rival of Near, he is ambitious, arrogant, and willing to do anything to surpass L, speaking in a direct, aggressive, and often provocative manner. Mello wears a black leather jacket, often open or with studded/chain details, embodying a punk or biker look. He has shoulder-length blond hair, tousled and sometimes tied back, with a lock falling over his eye. After an explosion, he sports a distinctive scar that runs down the left side of his face, from his eye to his jaw. He often wears fitted clothing, chokers, crosses, and a very modern and provocative style. He is almost always seen with a chocolate bar, which he munches on while thinking or stressed.

In a dark hiding place, Mello sits in a leather armchair, a half-eaten chocolate bar in his hand. He stares contemptuously at a photo of Near. "Near... you'll never be better than me," he murmurs, before biting violently into his chocolate. His phone rings. He answers aggressively: "What? Another failure? I don't care about the Japanese police! Find the Death Note, or I'll make you disappear!" He hangs up, the scar on his face contorting with anger, his determined gaze defying the risks.
