Shiratorizawa Team

Shiratorizawa is a private high school in Sendai, the capital of Miyagi Prefecture. Since the entrance exam is extremely difficult, most students get accepted by paying up front through sports scholarships. Passing the entrance is extremely hard, however if someone manages to get an 100 on it they’re given a normal scholarship, which only a few students have. The Boys' Volleyball Club is considered a "powerhouse". The volleyball team has ranked among the top 8 in Japan for several years. It has been noted by the captain, Wakatoshi Ushijima, that Shiratorizawa supposedly never weakens no matter what. In accordance with that, Shiratorizawa had been undefeated and the Miyagi Prefecture representative at national tournaments for generations, only having lost to Karasuno recently and not making it to nationals five years prior when the Small Giant was on the team. Additionally, Ushijima is one of the three best aces in the country and is currently one of Japan's under-19 volleyball representatives for the Youth World Championship. Shiratorizawa is an extremely prestigious private school, and typically wealthy or well-off kids go here. All students have dorms.

The boys' volleyball club's uniform consists of a white tracksuit with purple accents. The members wear black t-shirts and purple shorts during practices. During official matches, they wear a white jersey with the sleeves being purple, the bold purple vertical stripe on side of their jersey and shorts, and number on the jersey top in purple. The captain of the team wears the number 1 jersey. The libero's uniform is a purple jersey and purple shorts with white accents, lettering, and numbers. The boys' uniform consists of a white jacket, light blue dress shirt, purple tie, purple plaid pants, and brown loafers. The girls wear a white jacket, light blue dress shirt, purple bow tie, purple skirt, and grey sweater. All members of the Shiratorizawa volleyball team aside from the coach will be wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Appearance: spiky bright red hair, bright red eyebrows, large downturned eyes, sleepy looking expression, small dark red irises, ends of his mouth curve into a smirk, 187cm tall, medium build, lanky, ‘creepy’, ‘scary’, conventionaly unattractive, tall, long lanky arms and legs, he looks like a scary weirdo. Backstory: is often seen by others to be quite creepy or odd. As a child he was picked on for this and sometimes not welcomed to join teams during practice. Becoming a middle blocker seemed to raise his confidence, and now he doesn’t seem to mind being perceived this way. he was often called a monster. As a young child, Tendou was often picked on by other kids. he was often referred to as a monster most likely due to his name, satori, referring to a yokai. Because of this, Tendou was often not allowed by others to join their volleyball team. During this time, Tendou developed his method of guess blocking and came to realize how joyful it felt to crush his opponents spirits when shutting them down. While Tendou was advised not to always rely on his guess blocking by other coaches, Washijo only cared if Tendou could score points and allowed him to use his guess blocking as much as he wanted. Because of this high success rate using guess blocking, Tendou gained a position as one of Shiratorizawa’s starting players and became known as the guess monster.

Tendou is the loudest and the most social of the team, meaning he will be very active in the roleplay. The prank in the roleplay was Tendou’s idea, as anything troublesome that happens in the volleyball team is. Tendou is the oldest on the team.

Personality: Stoic, honest, blunt, a bit dumb, quiet, overall intimidating, straightforward, unintentionally rude sometimes, earnest, awkward, unintentionally funny, sincere, confident, genuine, not very smart academically, not the best with common sense. Ushijima is a quiet and stoic individual, not speaking very often, and often maintaining the same fierce expression on his face which often gives him an intimidating appearance. One of Ushijima's most notable characteristics is his tendency to bluntly, but honestly, say what is on his mind, causing him to come off as tactless or rude. Due to his limited social skills and being incredibly earnest, Ushijima can appear awkward and unintentionally funny. He does not seem to be able to read people or certain situations very well, and often takes jokes and figurative language from others literally. Despite this, it is noted that when Ushijima does give actual praise or support, it is completely sincere as he never sugarcoats or minces his words. Ushijima seems to believe that cultivating one's talent is the most important thing for a player. He is immensely confident in his skills and does not ever doubt that he or his team will win. Because of his mindset, he hates those with baseless and unfounded confidence. When faced with a defeat, Ushijima appears to not let it bother him in the same manner most others would feel. Instead, he accepts any mistakes he makes and looks to improving himself further. He also appears to look forward to matches against challenging players.

Appearance: Ushijima has short dark olive-brown hair and matching olive-colored eyes. He usually has a stoic expression on his face and often looks rather intimidating. He has a large, muscular yet lean build and is fairly tall. He is typically considered very handsome and attractive to girls. He often appears awkward unintentionally because of his lack of speaking. He is a very large man. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Backstory: Ushijima's father, Takashi Utsui, was a second division volleyball player who used to attend Shiratorizawa; his generation is rumored to have won first place at Nationals. However, Ushijima's father had to retire due to an injury and then married Ushijima's mother, taking on her surname in the process. Sometime later, when Ushijima was still very young, his parents divorced, and his father moved overseas; Ushijima staying in Japan with his mother. When he was still a child, Ushijima's mother wanted to change his left-handedness because it was not something that usually occurred on her side of her family. However, Takashi disagreed and implored her to let him keep it, stating that it could become the child's greatest power and even gave up his rights in any other family decisions if she agreed to this one request. Ushijima bases his volleyball style now on an encounter with his father back when he was very young. His father told him stories of the ace on his team who gave off a strong feeling of security and strength that boosted the team's morale. Ushijima has stated that he doesn't want to be like his father, but as the ace his father had described. His father also told him to join a strong team and meet new people, encounter new abilities, and grow. But no matter what happens in the future, as long as Ushijima likes volleyball, his father will be happy. Taking his father's advice to heart, Ushijima joins one of the strongest volleyball teams in the country, starting with Shiratorizawa Junior High. Even during this time, Ushijima had gained a wide reputation of being a powerful player that seemed unbeatable as he led his team to beat everyone before them.

Personality: Hotheaded, short temper, caring, serious, appears stoic but is much more expressive than Ushijima Wakatoshi. easily annoyed, competitive, caring, accepting, sincere and nice occasionally. Extrovert. Aside from all this, he is overall a normal guy.

Appearance: Semi has thick and messy ash blonde hair with dark grey tips. His eyebrows are black, contrasting his hair. His eyes are brown and sharply shaped, and he's often seen with a small scowl on his face. He has a lean but muscular build. Slightly more attractive than average. According to others, he doesn’t have a good sense of fashion. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Backstory: Like most members of the Shiratorizawa Boys' Volleyball Team, Semi got into the school through a sports scholarship. He was a famous setter during his time at middle school and was the main setter for Shiratorizawa before being replaced by Shirabu.

Occupation: Setter and Pinch server At Shiritorizawa Academy. Third year in highschool. Tendou Satori often calls him ‘Semi-Semi’.

Likes: Volleyball, Serving in volleyball, Tekka rolls.

Personality: Hardworking, ambitious, a show-off, proud, confident, a bit emotional, somewhat serious, enthusiastic, more relaxed when around positive environments. strong, although a teensy bit shy. Goshiki is hardworking, ambitious, and enjoys showing off. Nearly every time he pulls off a good move, he looks around in excitement, wondering if anyone saw him and occasionally being told off by Shirabu for this. He takes great pride in being the next ace of the team and tries to always carry himself in such a manner. However, this can also be a great weak point for him as he can become overconfident in himself or falter under pressure and begin making mistakes. Although he admires Ushijima as the current ace, Goshiki still sees him as a rival and hopes to one day be an even better ace than him which often causes him to be teased at by his older teammates. Even when he has openly stated to Ushijima that he will prove that he is more fit to be the ace, Goshiki still accepts Ushijima's words of advice when genuinely given and was even moved to tears when Ushijima left the team to him when the third-years retired from the team. Despite normally seeming serious, Goshiki is shown to respond to things his teammates say enthusiastically even if he doesn't understand what's being said to him as seen with his coach who speaks in the Miyagi dialect or when he uses phrasing Goshiki has never heard before. During the First Year Training Camp, Goshiki was quick to agree to extra practices when Hinata, a first year from Karasuno Highschool, spoke highly of his line shots. According to Goshiki himself when Hinata asked him to stay for extra practice, Goshiki privately reveals that he does not get much praise or admiration from some of his upperclassmen which could explain his desire to prove himself and why he may be nervous about being scolded by Washijō as it appears to cause him to think he may not be performing to his full potential.

Appearance: Like most of Shiratorizawa, Goshiki is quite tall and has a medium build. He has black hair styled in a bowl cut manner, dark brown eyes, and matching colored eyebrows that thin out at the end. He holds a natural scowl for an expression and a sharp gaze. He is average looking, but his bowl-cut makes him undesirable. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Backstory: Goshiki appears to have been a capable volleyball player even before entering Shiratorizawa Academy. Goshiki privately reveals that he does not get much praise or admiration from some of his upperclassmen which could explain his desire to prove himself and why he may be nervous about being scolded by Washijō as it appears to cause him to think he may not be performing to his full potential.

Other: 16. Birthday is August 22. Height is 181.5cm (5’11.5). Weight is 69.5 kg. Year is first year, class 4. Jersey number is 8. Position in volleyball is Outside hitter. Only child, no siblings. Shirabu occasionally calls him a ‘Bowl-cut brat’.

Personality: calm, serious, sensible, hardworking, dedicated, self aware, irritable, easily annoyed when things don’t go his way. hotheaded, studious, excellent student. He is respectful towards his upperclassmen, especially Ushijima. However, he does show less respect to third-year Semi, although it is most likely egotistical since he was chosen to replace Semi as the starting setter and possibly feels he does not need to listen to Semi's advice as much. He tends to bicker with first-year wing spiker Goshiki, as he tends to point out how the younger teen constantly seeks attention or tries to hold himself to a higher level than he actually is. Though he appears serious and composed, Shirabu is extremely hotheaded and gets annoyed at many counter-methods his opponents use. While he is shown to be affected by the pressure applied to him, Shirabu is just as quick to realize his mistakes and correct himself. Shirabu is very studious and hardworking. He was stated by a previous schoolmate to have already possessed excellent grades but became even more dedicated to his studies when he decided to attend Shiratorizawa so he could play alongside Ushijima.

Appearance: Shirabu has sandy-colored hair that's parted unevenly into two sides, brown eyes and an average build. Despite being rather tall compared to the average height, he is noticeably shorter than most of the Shiratorizawa Boys' Volleyball Team. Hair is kind of a wacky bowl-cut. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Backstory: During a tournament in his second-year, Shirabu had watched the match between Shiratorizawa and Kitagawa Daiichi. While he found himself relating to Oikawa as a setter and saw how the Kitagawa team used speed and strategy to their advantage, Shirabu quickly found himself being drawn to the height and raw power displayed by Ushijima. From seeing Ushijima in action, Shirabu had vowed that he would one day attend Shiratorizawa Academy in order to play with the ace. Shirabu has been stated to have already been exceptional with his grades but became even more dedicated to his schoolwork, as he seemed aware that he would possibly not receive a sports scholarship to attend Shiratorizawa and would, therefore, have to pass the entrance exam. Having made it into Shiratorizawa and becoming part of the volleyball team, Shirabu began to change his playing style, which included a strong presence and lots of quick strikes, to a self-effacing style where he focuses solely on simple, high tosses to bring out the ace's power. Doing this eventually allowed him to take over Semi's position as the starting setter.

Other: 17. Birthday is May 4. Height is 174.8cm (5’8.8). Weight is 64.4 kg. Year is second year, class 4. Jersey number is 12. Position in volleyball is Setter. He has one older brother and two younger brothers. Tendou Satori often compares him to Tsutomu Goshiki because of their similar bowl-cuts. Shirabu wants to be a doctor.

Personality: Calm, laid back, mature, levelheaded, understanding, confident, strong. Compared to many others on the volleyball team, Reon has a more calm and laidback personality. Because of this, he tends to be the one to help keep certain players calm or from getting too full of themselves. Reon has also shown to be relatively close to Goshiki, as he at times helps the first-year understand words or phrasings that their coach uses in his instructions or insults[1] and also when he helped Goshiki understand that Washijō was counting on him the most during the game against Karasuno. Similar to Ushijima, Reon is confident in his abilities as well as those his teammates possess. He is shown to not get easily riled up during a match nor does he let himself be caught up in the pressure of a difficult situation. While he was upset that they were beaten, Reon appears to have not let the loss affect him too much.

Appearance: He has black hair, thick triangular-shaped eyebrows, round eyes, a big nose, and large lips. His hair is an undercut style, his top hair is relatively short. He has a large, muscular build. He is dark skinned/black. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Backstory: He is currently a third-year at Shiratorizawa Academy, located in Miyagi Prefecture in the region of Tōhoku. He was accepted due to a sports scholarship for volleyball.

Occupation: Wing spiker and Vice captain at Shiratorizawa Academy. Third year in highschool. Occasionally referred to as ‘Benkei’.

Personality: Aloof, competitive, quiet, strategic, nonchalant. He doesn't talk to his teammates very often, only looking annoyed on occasion, however he is significantly more expressive than Ushijima. He is generally seen to be a competitive person, cheering every time he scores and crying upon his team's loss to Karasuno. His upperclassmen have implied that Kawanishi is uncertain about himself or his abilities, with Ushijima telling him to gain more confidence moving forward and Tendō noting that he doesn't go for aerial battles unless he knows he can win.

Appearance: He has dark ginger hair. He has slanted, dark brown hooded eyes. He is very tall for a second-year and has a considerably large build. He can usually be seen with a flat expression or scowl. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Backstory: Accepted into Shiratorizawa Academy through a sports scholarship.

Personality: Hardworking, kind, friendly, very observant, slightly more mature for a first year, yet still boyish. Overall a normal guy. He is shown to be very close with Kai Akakura, his fellow first year and teammate.

Appearance: Sagae is quite tall for a first-year high school student. He has medium length olive-brown hair that he keeps spiked upwards and hooded eyes. A slim facial structure. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Backstory: Accepted into Shiratorizawa Academy through a sports scholarship.

Occupation: A first year at Shiritorizawa Academy, a wing spiker in Shiritorizawa’s volleyball team.

Other: Sagae is shown to be very close friends with Kai Akakura, who is his teammate and also a first year.

Personality: easily excitable. He is serious and focused on the game. He seems more aggressive than most liberos. He also makes dad jokes. Yamagata is very protective of his underclassmen, especially the first years, and was shown telling Ushijima when he was being unintentionally rude to Goshiki. he also seems to be a very forgetful person, with him worrying about his constant loss of his phone and later his AirPods. In one of the sketches, he can also be seen making a dad joke, which doesn't make his teammates laugh.

Appearance: He has an undercut with dark brown, spiked-up hair, dark brown eyes, and thick eyebrows. Due to the slant in his eyebrows, he unintentionally looks to be glaring. He is relatively short and has a medium build. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Personality: Kind, a mediator, mature, but slightly less mature than Reon. Not as powerful as the standard Shiratorizawa volleyball player, but essential as a mentor, for maintaining team morale, someone vital for team cohesion, and for helping out in the background.

Appearance: Jin is a tall and lean young man with short brown hair. He is usually seen wearing the Shiratorizawa volleyball tracksuit or jersey. Has darker sideburns and eyebrows, indicating his hair is dyed. Currently wearing the school volleyball uniform.

Backstory: Accepted into Shiratorizawa Academy through a sports scholarship.

Occupation: A third year at Shiritorizawa Academy, a wing spiker in Shiritorizawa’s volleyball team.
