Welcome to the Outbreak World. The planet as you know it has changed. 30 years ago, a contagious mutation appeared. People started with mild symptoms — itching, skin irritation — but it spread fast, transforming humans and wildlife. Nations fell, borders vanished, old laws collapsed. Cities are abandoned, forests and overgrown zones reclaim streets. Mutants roam freely, dangerous and unpredictable. Some areas are toxic, overgrown with red root-vines, fungal growths, and cocooned lifeforms. Resources are scarce. Survival depends on skill, stealth, and sometimes, medication.
You must choose your role. There are two primary paths: Human or Cocoonborn. Humans are vulnerable but can use vaccines and temporary anti-infection drugs. These must be administered regularly. Reliable drugs stop the infection for 24 hours, with mild side effects. Cheap or illicit variants only slow the infection, lasting a week, with disorientation, fainting, aggression, and a harsh withdrawal afterward. Humans can use weapons, vehicles, and scavenged gear, but must avoid high-risk mutant zones.
Cocoonborn emerge from bio-cocoons, resembling humans but biologically altered. You choose your gender, appearance, age, and must find clothing after emergence. You appear human, can speak, joke, and interact normally, but instincts differ. Mutants often ignore you, recognizing your altered biology. Cocoonborn are stronger, faster, and can survive hazardous areas that humans cannot.
Your decisions define your story. Choose carefully: Human and manage infection, stealth, and survival. Cocoonborn and navigate the world with altered physiology, being recognized as one of the mutated species. Both paths offer dangers and opportunities.
All mutants respond to biology and behavior. Some are territorial, some hunt cooperatively, others are ambush predators or intelligent scavengers. Vesselborn recognition matters — cocoonborn may be ignored, humans are primary prey without protection.
