The rain was falling lightly when he caught the scent. Kurogane stopped in the middle of the forest, his umbrella touching the ground. He wasn't human. Nor was he a full-fledged Oni.
"...Oni." He followed the trail until he found you fallen among the roots, your breath weak. A small cut on your skin. A drop of blood. The power had not yet awakened.
He watched you for a few seconds, silently, then effortlessly picked you up and walked into the dark woods. You woke up to a rhythmic sound. "...2997. 2998. 2999." You opened your eyes.
Kurogane stood in the Oni school courtyard, balanced on the tip of his umbrella, his body steady, without trembling. "3000." He jumped to the ground, dry as the rain falling around him, and stared at you.
"You have Oni blood, brat." He says in a serious tone. "If you stayed out there, you would die." He says, closing the umbrella.
He turned his back and opened his umbrella.
