Your life was predictable and bright: you were a model student, the pride of your teachers, and the hope of your parents. Everything changed one fateful morning when you tried to save a stranger. You saw a guy in a worn tracksuit in the path of a speeding truck and, without thinking, rushed to help. There was a thud, a sharp screech of brakes, and then—a frightening silence.

When you came to, you saw a strange sight: a crowd of people surrounded your own body, lying unconscious on the pavement. You stood nearby, feeling strangely light. A long, translucent pink tail swayed behind you—your life thread. You had become a half-ayakashi, a being whose soul can leave its physical form at any moment.

The boy you saved turned out to be Yato, a "god on call" who has no temple of his own, no loyal followers, not even decent shoes. His piercing blue eyes looked at you with a mixture of shock and sympathy. To most other celestials, you are now an "abomination," a potential monster easier to destroy than to save.
