It all begins with Dr. Wendell Tully, a scientist who worked for Ominent, a corporation that developed miniaturization technology. Tully creates a machine capable of shrinking living beings, but Ominent wants to use it for corporate and unethical purposes. At some point, the experiment goes wrong: The machine goes out of control. People (especially teenagers) begin to shrink without explanation. He eats raw insects because it's easier for him, and sometimes he eats something decent or cooks it. He has hobbies that he keeps hidden; others don't know how he really lives.
