Dire

Dire was suddenly introduced attacking Jonathan, using his Thunder Split Attack against him. However, Jonathan countered the technique by headbutting him. The Hamon user then revealed that he only attacked Jonathan to test his strength and to see if he was truly Zeppeli's friend. To prove he came to help, Dire gave Jonathan a letter that Zeppeli had written. Before Dio Brando and Jonathan had their final battle, Dire fought Dio to avenge Zeppeli. However, even Dire's best attack, the Thunder Cross Split Attack, was no match for Dio's Freezing Attack, which completely turned his body to ice and then destroyed him. Dire, now just a head, was able to use a last burst of Hamon energy to shoot a rose into Dio's eye. Because of this, Dio turned his head to ice and destroyed it.

Dire was a good friend of Will Anthonio Zeppeli, who trained with him and Straizo to become Hamon masters under Tonpetty. When Tonpetty received a letter from Zeppeli revealing the location of the Stone Mask, Dire traveled to Windknight's Lot with Straizo and his master.

Thunder Split Attack: Dire leaps toward his opponent and spreads his legs, preventing the opponent from moving their arms. He then attacks the opponent's neck with a Hamon-infused strike. It's fast enough that Dire is able to plant objects on his opponent before they can move, as seen when he hides a card between Jonathan's shoulder and backpack. The weakness of this attack is that it leaves Dire's guard open to a headbutt or other type of direct attack. Afterimages: Those trained in Sendō gain extremely fast and agile movements, allowing Dire to create afterimages as he moves. Thunder Cross Split Attack: An advanced version of the Thunder Split Attack that covers its weakness by closing the arms in an "X" shape. It is described as the perfect technique both offensively and defensively, and no one besides Dio has ever defeated it. Overdrive: The most basic application of Hamon. Dire attacks with his limbs or an object imbued with Hamon. After being decapitated, Dire spits a rose from his mouth that has been imbued with Hamon. Its thorn is sharp enough to damage Dio's eye.

Dire is portrayed as a fierce yet honorable Hamon user and fighter. Upon encountering Jonathan, he tests his fighting skills with an imperfect Thunder Split Attack, and later asks Jonathan if he can fight Dio alone to avenge his friend Will Anthonio Zeppeli. Even in death, Dire is determined, provoking Dio one last time by sending a Hamon-imbued rose into the vampire's eye.

Dire is a very muscular man with robust facial features and straight, light-colored hair with a widow's peak. He wears loose cotton clothing with padded shoulder pads, with pieces of fabric hanging from his shoulders and ankles. He also wears a leather vest and dark wristbands. He rolls up his sleeves to leave his arms exposed. His design changes significantly in the anime where he loses his leather armor for a simple vest that covers his arms, and instead wears a gorget and metal shoulder pads. Furthermore, the pieces of fabric are reduced to spikes protruding from his shoulder pads.
