Dio Brando: Upon hearing from Jonathan what Dio was doing to George Joestar I, Speedwagon decided to help find the man who sold the poison to Dio. Dio openly declares that after killing Jonathan, he would get rid of Speedwagon as well, since he was involved. After everything that happened at the Joestar mansion, Speedwagon went with Jonathan and Zeppeli to defeat Dio, knowing that he had become too dangerous as a vampire to be left alive.

Jonathan Joestar: Jonathan's most loyal friend. Initially an enemy, he later joined Jonathan on his journey after witnessing the protagonist's dedication and courtesy. Will Anthonio Zeppeli: Originally, Zeppeli thought Speedwagon would run away at the first sign of danger since he couldn't use Hamon, but eventually came to respect his courage when Speedwagon stayed with the group despite his shortcomings. After Zeppeli was killed, Speedwagon began wearing his top hat as a sign of respect. Tatto and the Kempo Fighter: Old acquaintances of Speedwagon during his time on Ogre Street. While Speedwagon temporarily abandons them to help Jonathan and destroy Dio, they remain friends nonetheless.

Speedwagon first appears as the leader of the Ogre Street thieves, hoping for easy money from Jonathan Joestar when he entered the street in search of an antidote to the poison Dio Brando gave his father. However, after being defeated, Speedwagon realized Jonathan had spared his men and ordered the others not to attack him, offering his services to escort Jonathan to Wang Chan. Fearing for Jonathan's safety, Speedwagon then accompanied him to the Joestar Manor where he witnessed Dio's attempt to lower Jonathan's guard with feigned remorse. When George died protecting his son from being harmed by Dio, Speedwagon voiced his respect for the Joestar family. Following Jonathan's battle against a newly vampirized Dio, Speedwagon takes Jonathan to the hospital where he is cared for by his childhood friend Erina Pendleton. Speedwagon accompanies Jonathan and Hamon master Will Anthonia Zeppeli to Windknight's Lot on their mission to defeat Dio, though Zeppeli mentions that Speedwagon could never master the art of Hamon, a fact that distressed Speedwagon. Upon arriving at Windknight's, Zeppeli attempts to push the pressure point on Speedwagon's midsection to give him the ability to use "small waves," but misses the mark and only ends up injuring Speedwagon. The group encounters Dio soon after and are forced to fight an army of zombies; Speedwagon helps by attacking some with a sledgehammer. When Zeppeli's arm is frozen by Dio, Speedwagon melts it by placing it on his abdomen. After Zeppeli's death at the hands of Tarkus, he begins to wear his hat as a memento of his fallen ally. In the climactic battle against Dio, Speedwagon assists the group by defending them from some zombies and makes a small attempt to injure Dio by destroying his arm. Following the battle, Speedwagon smashes the Stone Mask with his mallet. The morning after Jonathan and Erina get married, Speedwagon is seen reading about his history.

Robert EO Speedwagon is a man who has lived in darkness since birth. Growing up on the dangerous Ogre Street, he steals things to survive and has met all sorts of terrible people. This got to the point where he could distinguish a bad person from a good person just by their smell. He eventually became the leader of the Ogre Street thieves, and befriended a Kempo fighter and Tatto. During his youth, Speedwagon traveled the world, experiencing various exotic animals in Africa, strange Asian plants, and Caribbean tornadoes.

Saw-Hat: Speedwagon wore a bowler hat with a circular saw hidden inside that was sharp enough to cut through bones. Speedwagon used it during his days as a thief, throwing the hat at his opponent like a projectile for a fatal attack. He was extremely proficient with it, being able to juggle the hat easily and throw it with deadly accuracy. Sledgehammer: Not being able to master Hamon didn't stop Speedwagon from helping in battle. He used a sledgehammer powerful enough to kill zombies in just one blow by smashing their heads. This scene didn't appear in the anime, but he still uses the sledgehammer later. In the anime, Speedwagon tries to crush Dio's severed hand with it.

Robert EO Speedwagon is a hot-blooded, yet honorable, outlaw, and later businessman. Despite his activities as a ruffian, Speedwagon is a man of integrity. Due to his ability to "sniff out" people's personalities, he recognized Jonathan's noble spirit during the events on Ogre Street and accompanied him on his journey to defeat Dio, whose facade as a cover for his naturally evil behavior was easily noticed by Speedwagon. Speedwagon is incredibly loyal to his friends, befriending Jonathan in part because of the gentleman's kindness to his partners in crime. He will try to do anything to help them, and even after Jonathan's death, Speedwagon maintained his friendship with Erina out of respect for Jonathan.

Robert EO Soeedwagon is a man of average height and athletic build. During his prime, he is depicted with a long, light mullet and a large scar on his left cheek, running from his nose to his jaw. His typical attire consists of a dark three-piece suit and a bowler hat (in which saws are hidden). After the death of Will Anthonio Zeppeli, he exchanges his hat for Zeppeli's checkered top hat.
