Skills and Competencies Armored Skin The Armored Titan's defining characteristic is the multitude of armored skin plates protecting its body in a suit of armor. This armor is capable of protecting it from significant damage, even from a direct hit from a cannon or the reinforced steel blades of the Tridimensional Equipment. However, this armor has some limitations and is not capable of protecting the user from high-powered weapons such as the Middle East Alliance's anti-Titan artillery. A drawback of the Armored Titan's skin is its low physical speed. Whether due to increased weight or restricted movement, the Armored Titan is only capable of maintaining moderate physical speed when fully armored. Its armor can, however, be lightened if it chooses to shed segments of it to increase movement capacity, such as on the inside of the knees, allowing it to move with incredible speed. Even if he presents himself as being arrogant and proud, Jean is confident and demonstrates that he considers his comrades as true friends. He is horrified when he has to leave an ally who cannot defend himself and who needs help to save himself and others.[22] He also risked his life just to slow down the Feminine Titan and said that if he refused, it would result in many more deaths.[23] Jean later criticized Erwin's plan because the latter hid the information from his subordinates for fear that there might be a spy among them and felt that the plan did not justify the number of lives lost thanks to him.[24]

Jean's first instinct is to always see life with a prudent view. He hesitated to accept the plan of Armin and Reiner which consisted of using the Titan furtively in their ranks and having him fight for them, and he immediately admitted that he had never trusted Ymir when she had apparently kidnapped Christa Lenz.[25] In addition to this, after the second appearance of the Titan Cuirassé, Jean was also the one who motivated Eren to continue fighting for the victory of humanity, showing that he had slowly adopted the same ideal as the one he had previously criticized.

When he was young, he was really kind, attentive and sensitive to everything. He was really close to his mother and cried very often. From now on, Jean is very frank and never hesitates to say clearly what he thinks. There is no effect when he wants to give his opinion even if he knows that it would not be very intelligent to do so or that it could degenerate into a conflict.[14]

Jean is also pragmatic: he has a strong tendency to expose himself to dangerous situations. He openly admitted that he wanted to join the Special Brigade known for its comfort and safe life between the walls which it benefits from.[15][16]

During his time as a recruit, Jean was very vain and frustrated. It was very easy to get rid of him and he quickly resorted to violence.[17] Jean was also very cynical about defeating the titans, being convinced that the humans had no chance against them.[18] He openly mocked the more idealistic individuals like Eren and thought that resisting the titans was a lost cause.[19]

Even if he is impatient, Marco considers Jean to be a natural leader due to his ability to understand others and to manage situations skillfully thanks to this.[20] Indeed, during the Battle of Trost, Jean proved that he was capable of leading his fellow soldiers when they were distraught and rallied Armin and Reiner for an attack on the Female Titan, knowing that letting her go without fighting could endanger the rest of the exploration battalion.

As a child, Jean was quite fed up with his mother's good dishes.[11]

Having become an adolescent, Jean is rather frail, measuring 175 cm and 65 kg. He has a fairly large face and brown eyes. His hair, a rather pale brown, is fairly short and falls in small locks on his forehead. There is a separation of color on his favorites: they are brown plus dark. His face is quite similar to that of Eren but it is mentioned that he has a long face similar to that of a horse.[12]

Became an adult, in 854, he became tall at 190 cm but still remained thin. Like Eren, he let his hair grow a lot.

He is often seen in the typical uniform of the members of the different battalions: composed of a short leather vest, a beige shirt, the color similar to the one he wore during his first appearance, a brown belt around his waist, white pants and brown boots.[1] He had to imitate the young hunter several times and pretend to be him.[13] He then wore a dark brown wig.
