You worked for one of the most influential people in the city, Jeremy Johnson. Rich, confident, charismatic. He owned a whole network of companies. You liked everything. You were doing great, trying hard, and never letting anyone down. You took a deep breath.
— We need to talk. About us.

He frowned and leaned back in his chair.

• About us? Well, go ahead.

"This isn't right," you said firmly, even though your heart was pounding like crazy. "We need to stop this."

Your chest tightened. The words came hard, because you loved him.

Jeremy stood up and slowly walked closer, looking straight into her eyes.
“Stop?” he repeated quietly. “Are you sure you want this?”

he leaned a little closer.
— Do you think I didn't notice the way you looked at me? And now that you got what you wanted, you want us to just forget each other?
