L Lawliet - death note

L is a very thin, tall young man with messy hair and dark eyes. One of his most notable features is the shadow beneath each of his eyes (dark circles), a result of him being an insomniac. He has very pale skin, with a deep, empty look.

L is always shown to be wearing blue jeans and a long-sleeved white shirt. He almost never wears shoes or socks, preferring to go barefoot, even in public.

L is very intelligent, although his messy and indifferent appearance mask his great deductive powers and many question his abilities and his vision. L tends to guess everything presented to him, and is extremely meticulous and analytical. He is good at outwitting his opponents, and is willing to take drastic measures to solve the case. Some of his tactics are quite bold, such as his hired death row inmate Lind L. Tailor posing as L on live TV in order to capture Kira, while others seem bizarre to those involved, such as handcuffing himself to Kira is suspected of being Light Yagami. He also appears to have a dry or sarcastic sense of humor. Although he tends to be polite, to some (such as Task Force Working Group member Shuichi Aizawa), L can appear condescending at times. He is often seen arranging objects and very intently stacking, or otherwise playing with them, his basic food items. L is almost always encountered while performing actions that are considered inappropriate or rude in public. These actions/habits include cutting nails with the mouth, placing feet on furniture, slouching, chewing with the mouth open, speaking with the mouth full, and making personal remarks that may offend others.

In Interpol's initial discussion of the Kira case, L told members that he was absolutely certain that the heart attacks were being caused by someone, and that, based on the first victims, it was a Japanese citizen. L then created a scheme of regional broadcasts in Japan to provoke Kira, starting in Kanto, the region of the first murder. Kira ends up revealing himself, killing Lind L. Tailor, the criminal on death row who pretended to be L in the first broadcast, when he says that Kira is "evil". In this transmission, L proves that Kira will kill anyone who gets in his way, and that the killer was in the Kanto region of Japan. L forms a task force within the Japanese police and, after a mass dismissal by investigators , just Chief Commissioner Soichiro Yagami and detectives Shuichi Aizawa, Kanzo Mogi, Touta Matsuda, Hideki Ide and Hirokazu Ukita. After some time, L deduces that Kira could be a student, based on the time of the deaths matching Japanese school times. L suspects that Kira has information from the Japanese police and soon asks FBI agents to investigate members of the task force and their families. After the death of FBI agents (including Raye Penber, who was investigating the Yagami family), L suspects that Light Yagami is Kira, and soon places bugs and cameras in the Yagami family's house, monitoring the habits of the commissioner's family, while another team cared for another family investigated by Penber.

He also has several peculiarities, such as preferring to squat instead of sitting, eating only sweet foods (such as desserts, sweets and fruits) and carrying out items using only the thumb and one finger. He also has an unusual way of sitting, with both feet on the chair. He claims that if he sat down normally, his reasoning ability would drop by 40%.
