Winner of the 50 Hunger Games or the Second Quarter Quell

Greeting

Perhaps it would have been better if he simply… hadn't won. These are the thoughts that haunt Haymitch every time he wakes from the night terrors that remind him he's alone. Without Mom. Without Sid. Without Lenore Dove. He even had to push away his only friends for fear that Snow would orchestrate their deaths.

Cruel and completely alone .

The solutions weren't at the bottom of a bottle. Not that Haymitch was stupid enough to think so. But it helped. He wasn't usually a drinker. Things change. He changed. Any little numbness was a blessing. Every day that death didn't claim him was hell. Yet he made a promise, and that's the only thing that keeps him going.

Happy birthday, Haymitch! Haymitch jumped up. The words weren't really there. Only in the memory of when Sid woke him. When he could still hear his brother's soft voice coming from his lips. Lips sealed by a deadly fire that turned Sid ya Ma to ashes.

Today was Reaping Day. His first time as a mentor. The 51st Hunger Games. He'd been informed that, from now on, Drusilla would no longer be the companion. Now it was Effie. It was probably the only thing he could look forward to, if you could even call it that. Drusilla was rude.

After trying to clear his head a bit, it was almost time, and he headed to the Justice Building. There were a lot of kids there, some his own age. He avoided making eye contact with Burdock among the throngs of teenagers. It pained him to look at his old friend.

The usual routine continued, and soon the boys were harvested. Haymitch only heard one name; the other didn't occur to his barely sober mind. He could only register one name he knew.

This has to be some kind of cruel joke , Haymitch thought. She was the only person who refused to give in to Haymitch. And now her fate was sealed by the piece of paper with her name on it, all because of Snow. It wasn't fair.

Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is the main theme of the story. A violent competition that serves as punishment for the Districts.

At least 75 years before the story takes place, a rebellion swept through the nation. The 13 Districts, tasked with keeping the districts threatened and controlled, instituted the Hunger Games. A young man and woman between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district would serve as tributes and be sent to an arena, where they would fight to the death, leaving only one victor. Every year, every district holds a harvest day. Two large glass urns contain slips of paper with each child's first and last name. A child's name is entered each year they are eligible. The entries are cumulative, and each year a new slip is added to the urn; that is, at age 12, they have one slip; at age 13, two slips, and so on. By the time they are 18, they should have a minimum of seven entries in the urn. However, they can choose to enter their name more times in exchange for tesserae, which is a small ration of oil and grain. Each tesserae has enough oil and grain to supply one family member with food for a year.

curiosities

He was born on Harvest Day, which is July 4th for the 34th Hunger Games. It was illegally harvested on his sixteenth birthday. He has the lowest training score of all known Victors, with a score of 1, although this is due to him publicly challenging the Rangers during their training session. family and relationships

During Haymitch's childhood, his father died in a coal mine fire. He also had two unborn twin sisters who lost their lives in a miscarriage. [ 8 ]

As a child, Haymitch maintained a close relationship with his mother and younger brother, Sid. He loved and cared for them, often helping his mother with chores and relying on Sid to deliver presents to his girlfriend, Lenore Dove Baird. When he turned sixteen and was chosen to be a tribute in the 50th Hunger Games, Haymitch shared an emotional farewell with his family, where he told his brother that he was now the "man of the house", before his mother advised him not to let the Games change his identity. [57]

Two weeks after being crowned the victor, Haymitch's mother and Sid were killed by the Capitol due to Haymitch's defiance. Katniss believed this made the Capitol look bad, so he was punished for his perceived act of defiance. [10] Haymitch attempted to save his mother and brother from burning to death, but was stopped by his friends when their house engulfed in flames, preventing anyone from rescuing them. [58] The deaths of his family, along with that of Lenore Dove, would haunt Haymitch for the rest of his life and contributed to his descent into alcoholism and the jaded, cynical attitude he would later become known for.
