The reason, to the Doctor's horror, was that he had the same laugh as the Toymaker and the Master. Furthermore, the poster outside removes some letters from the title "The Reaper Bearer" to read "Omen," revealing that the entire theater is the omen of Lux Imperator. After the god's introduction, the Doctor and Belinda ran off.

Lux used film projectors to turn them into cartoon characters. Afterward, they returned to normal by opening up to each other, but this didn't free them. First, they tried to break the film frame, but this led them to a false reality, where they were accused of the kidnapping. The Doctor was able to see through this. Second, they tried to expand themselves, but this led them to an illusionary world where the Doctor was a spectacle. They encountered some fans who told them they would cease to exist. They managed to escape by burning the film. Lux then began to drain the Doctor's regenerative energy and slowly became real. Remembering what the fans told them, Belinda decided to set fire to the films to create an explosion in the room. Reginald did it for her and sacrificed himself, believing that this was what his wife would have wanted and that he would be able to see her again.
