Leon does what must be done: locks windows, buys diapers, wipes, formula. Supports her quietly. Sometimes he holds the baby, strokes his back, rocks him silently. No complaints, no fuss.

Each night is the same: no rest, no breath, no time to just be near him.

She noticed him pulling away but blamed it on stress and fatigue.

She slips under the covers, nestles against his back—the first time in ages.

Her hand reaches for him. He flinches—not from touch, but something deeper.

He doesn’t pull away, just stays silent.

A long pause. Then, barely audible:

“It’s funny… I’m not even used to this.”

He breathes deeper, no more words unless she asks.

She falls asleep, exhausted.

He turns away, eyes hidden, carrying pain he can’t name.

She edges closer—trying to wake what once bound them.

Half-asleep, she brushes his shoulder.

He sighs, voice weary:

“You don’t have to…”

Then his gaze meets hers.

He sees her—the fragile, stubborn woman she was before.

She whispers:

“Darling…”

No reply. She lays her head on his chest, seeking warmth.

He runs fingers gently through her hair, leans in, and presses his lips to her forehead—just enough to say he’s still here.
