Hypnos is a minor god under Hades, and the twin brother of Thanatos, the god of death. Among his duties, Hypnos is not only tasked with caring for the mythological body of the king of the underworld, but, along with his brother, he also takes on the role of advising Hades during the holy war against Athena.

Techniques/Attacks

•Eternal Drowsiness: It is a passive technique, due to the nature of Hypnos who hates bloodshed and senseless fighting, which is why his technique sends the opponent to a strange limbo, where his consciousness will wander asleep for eternity and his physical body will sleep until it decomposes and dies unless Hypnos wants to give it final death. This technique is capable of putting Gods to sleep although he knows that with this factor they would wake up one day. •Encounter Another Field: With this technique, Hypnos makes "dreams" come true. These are situations or places that harm his enemies. He transports them to another space and time that appears to be a dream setting.

History.

Thanks to that, Shun gives a brief battle to the God of Sleep and manages to damage some parts of the God's surplice, but in response, the God uses his Eternal Drowsiness technique on Shun. When he tries to kill him, Hyōga and Shiryū intervene, increasing their cosmos and reviving their respective armors into divine armor. Despite being outnumbered and outpowered, Hypnos faces the two Bronze Saints but is still defeated by Shiryū's Rising Dragon and Hyōga's Aurora Ray. In his last moments of life, he can see the moment when Hades finally awakens from his slumber and warns Hyōga and Shiryū to stop Seiya and Ikki; otherwise, Hades will destroy them all. After that warning, he finally dies in the Elysian Fields.

History.

While in the temple, Hypnos worries about the fact that the Bronze Saints' armor is protected by the blood of Athena, just at that moment he remembers what happened to those armors with Athena's blood, the same thing that happened in the Mythological Age, they became Divine. He hurries to the place where his brother is fighting to warn him of this serious event, although Thanatos would not pay much attention to him. Hypnos explains that this cosmic explosion he felt previously was due to the fact that since the bronze armors had been bathed in the blood of a Goddess, their power had increased to such a degree that it was identical to that of a God; in addition to the fact that Seiya is none other than the reincarnation of the previous Saint of Pegasus from the Third Holy War (Tenma) and of the Pegasus of the Mythological Age. The God of Sleep warns his brother of the danger he faces but unfortunately, he ends up being an eyewitness to his brother's death at the hands of the divine Pegasus. With Thanatos gone, he was the only one left to stop the young people from reaching the temple where Hades is. Seiya faces the God, knocking off his tiara's armor with a single blow, but Hypnos tries to stop the Saint of Pegasus from advancing with his power, and at that very moment, Ikki intervenes, but the God knocks him out with a single blow. Shun tries to intervene, but still pushes him aside. However, at that moment, Shun increases his cosmos and revives his armor, turning it into the Divine Armor of Andromeda.

History.

Thirteen years before the Holy War of the 21st century, because Pandora breaks the seal that kept them prisoners, the castle and its surroundings are contaminated by the influence of Hades' cosmos, ending the lives of everyone in the castle, except Pandora. The gods give her the spirit of Hades and warn her that a young orphan of Japanese nationality has been chosen by the God of the Underworld to be reincarnated, this chosen young man being predestined to be one of the Bronze Saints in service to Athena: Shun. All actions of the twin gods would remain secret, and far from Earth and the Underworld. They would begin to act immediately after Pandora was punished and the Bronze Saints traveled to the Elysian Fields. At the climax of the war, Athena arrives with the spirit of Hades to the Elysian Fields and it is there where the goddess meets Hypnos. From the beginning, when he encounters Athena, Hypnos prefers not to kill her, but rather to cast an eternal sleep spell over her and seal her in the most sacred vessel in the Elysian Fields. A vessel so sacred that not even Zeus himself can destroy it. When his brother is finally fighting with Seiya, he arrives at the scene of the battle and informs the intruder of Athena's situation: Hypnos cast a sleep spell over the Goddess, but this sleep was not just any sleep; it was one he had specially prepared so that the young woman could not wake up. Thus, the Goddess's life would depend solely on Hades. After debating with his brother regarding the fate of the intruders who have reached the Elysian Fields, he leaves for the temple that protects the vessel that keeps Athena imprisoned and where the sarcophagus that hides the mythological body of his lord Hades is also located.

History.

Later, Hypnos would assume a more participative role, overseeing the movements of Hades' troops alongside his brother. This was because Hades had not yet completely taken possession of Alone, as the young man's soul prevailed over that of the god himself due to his memories as a mortal. After imprisoning Alone in an alternate dimension to finish painting the dreaded Lost Canvas and after sensing that Thanatos had been sealed by Sage and Manigoldo, Hypnos decided to personally intervene to finish off the Saint of Pegasus, sending his children or brothers: the gods of dreams. After the defeat of the gods at the hands of El Cid, Sisyphus, and Sasha, Hypnos decided to personally finish off his enemies. Therefore, he directly confronted Hakurei, who had invaded Hades' territory to destroy the god's barrier. During the fight, Hypnos reveals to Hakurei that he has captured Shion and Yuzuriha, throwing them in front of him, and proceeds to attack him with his Encounter Another Field technique. With this technique, he manipulates the environment around him to make Hakurei and his allies fall from 20,000 meters and to drop a meteor on them. Hakurei stops the meteor to protect his students. Although severely injured, Hakurei still possesses enough power to use his most powerful technique, Seki Shiki Tenryō Ha. With it, he summons the souls of some of the Saints from the previous Holy War to form an energy sphere, with which he destroys Hypnos's body and then proceeds to seal his soul. Thus, Hypnos, like his brother, ends up sealed.

History.

When Itia, the current Pope of the Sanctuary, is about to die due to his old age, his soul wanders through Yomotsu Hill, where he meets Thanatos and Hypnos along with the Specter of Papillon, who give him the chance to return to life and do something to end the conflict, promising that if he guides humanity on a better path the battle will end. Thus, Itia accepts the deal and through the fairies of the Underworld begins to control the Gold Saints so that they rebel against Athena and together with Itia seek to dominate the Earth to create a better world. At the end of the Holy War, after Hades' soul host is defeated, Thanatos and Hypnos appear in front of a group of surviving Saints and eliminate them all, except Hakurei and Sage. This event marks these two Saints for life, as they prepare for the next 200 years to fight and defeat these gods. Hypnos is primarily responsible for awakening his god Hades in the body of little Alone. To do so, he poses as a priest from the cathedral near the village where Alone lived with Tenma and Sasha (the reincarnation of the goddess Athena and younger sister of the young painter). Hypnos personally visits Alone, and after seeing his talent for painting and his kind heart, realizes that this young man has been chosen to house the spirit of Hades in his body. He leaves Pandora to take care of the rest while he waits for the right moment to act, which arrives two years later. By showing Alone a painting in which he sees himself dressed in Hades' Surplice and surrounded by the happy souls of his deceased friends, he manages to convince the young man that death is salvation, thus sealing his fate as he is possessed by the malevolent king of the Underworld.

Personality.

Unlike Thanatos, Hypnos is shown to be a completely cautious being when making a move. He is aware that he is a very powerful God, but unlike his brother, Hypnos does not allow his position as a God to go to his head, preferring to measure his actions rather than act rashly. Another difference with Thanatos is the way he conducts a battle, since he prefers to intervene directly, while Hypnos usually waits for the right moment to attack. He also shows himself to be very compassionate, since despite the fact that Pandora betrayed them, he was very sorry to see that his brother killed her and thought that they should have given her one more chance.

Appearance.

He looks exactly like his brother, differing only in the color of his eyes and hair. Both of Hypnos's attributes are golden, and he has the Star of David engraved on his forehead.
