Persona Attributes
Appearance.
This is a tall young man with long hair and the same features as Mū and Kiki, as well as the two tikas on his forehead, a symbol of his Muvian race, and short light green hair.
Personality.
Regarding his personality, Shion possesses a rather serene and reserved character, thinking things through before acting. At the same time, he is decisive and aware of the course the war is taking, as well as the sacrifices that must be made. On the other hand, he appears arrogant and proud in front of Dohko. He considers the Bronze Saints as trash and seems confident in controlling all events, but this is all an act. After Athena's "death," he reveals his true personality, claiming he only pretended loyalty to Hades and that he was actually trying to revive Athena's armor with her blood. Upon discovering the potential of the Bronze Saints, he entrusts them with the goddess's armor. After his other death, he shows pride in the Bronze Saints.
History.
Young Shion finds himself surrounded by dozens of armors, enjoying the suffering and lives of those who wore the armors just by touching them. Suddenly, Lune appears in the cave, having observed the boy and asking him to join him. But the dead armors protect Shion, who has already made his decision. However, Shion changes his mind and after refusing to accompany Lune, Shion is left dying after receiving a fatal cut to the neck. Agonizing beside the armors he was repairing, he is rescued by his master Hakurei. The power of the broken armors and the blood of his master, over two hundred years old, allowed him to survive on that occasion. Shion appears before the Patriarch, Sage, who was with Sisyphus receiving the report from Dégel. Shion tells him that he was going to Jamir to eliminate an evil star, but before leaving he wants to say goodbye to the Pope, who asks him to greet his brother on his behalf. After this, Shion leaves. Shion is sent to Jamir on the orders of the Patriarch, since according to him the readings of the stars give a bad omen in that area, due to the imminent appearance of Hades. There he meets Yuzuriha, a training partner who was willing to marry after learning of the death of her parents and the disappearance of her brother Tokusa. Shion advises her that her destiny will always be that of a warrior, and later visits his master Hakurei. Suddenly, a Masei (Diabolic Star) appears in Jamir, attacking Yuzuriha. Shion arrives to save her and realizes that it is actually her brother, Tokusa, who now serves Hades. Shion eliminates him with a Stardust Revolution, knowing that afterwards, his dear friend would serve Athena as a Saint.
History.
Later, Shion returns to the Sanctuary to meet with the other Golden Saints at a meeting with the Patriarch Sage of Cancer. There he meets his friend Dohko and his other comrades, and they officially announce the appearance of Hades around the world. After that meeting, he descends to the Sanctuary's training grounds where he finds Raimi of the Worm attacking Sasha, the reincarnation of Athena of that time. Instantly, Raimi is torn apart by Shion's Stardust Revolution. After that, the Aries Saint apologizes to young Athena for being late from Jamir. Two years pass. Along with Dohko and the Patriarch, they guard young Athena until they receive in the Patriarch's chamber the Silver Saints of the Arrow, Cerberus, and Auriga, who had been sent to Italy on a reconnaissance mission (specifically to the village where Sasha grew up). Unexpectedly, their Silver Armors fall apart, now shining like the most beautiful metal of the Underworld, wearing Surplices. The three Silver Saints fiercely attack Athena, but are instantly eliminated by the combined power of Shion and Dohko (Stardust Revolution and Rozan Hyaku Ryū Ha). Sasha laments, as before the Silver Saints attacked she felt their feelings. They didn't want to kill her, but to be with her. Both Golden Saints, feeling guilty, ask permission from the Patriarch and the Goddess to go to the same place where their Silver comrades first fell dead, to try to clear their conscience. Permission is granted, forming a small battalion of Silver and Bronze Saints (among whom are Tenma of Pegasus and Yato of the Unicorn), arriving in Italy.
History.
However, Hades awakens completely, taking possession of the body of a young painter named Alone, childhood friend of Tenma of Pegasus and blood brother of Sasha. The first battle of this bloody war begins, where several Saints fall dead. Shion, on the one hand, led a small group along with the Saints of the Lizard and the Hunting Dogs. The climax of that conflict arrives when Pegasus confronts Hades in person, being murdered by him. Dohko, who accompanied him, tries to avenge the death of his disciple by attacking Hades, but is stopped by a powerful Spectre named Kagaho of Bennu. Shion arrives in time to stop his companion, telling him that nothing can be done. Hades allows them to retreat amidst a desolate landscape, where corpses abound everywhere. Subsequently, a counterattack by the Spectres occurs. This time the battlefield is the Sanctuary itself. A skirmish occurs outside the Sanctuary between the Spectres and the Saint of Pisces, Albafica. From the House of Aries, Shion watches the scene from afar, disconcerted. Not sensing Albafica's presence, he heads towards the vicinity of the Rodorio Village and encounters a little girl who is being threatened by Minos of the Griffin, one of the judges of Hell. Minos executes his Cosmic Marionette on Shion, who finds himself in trouble. Albafica arrives in time, defeating Minos, while the Saint of Aries helps protect everyone from Minos's final attack with his Crystal Wall.
History.
Once Minos is dead, Albafica also dies. Shion takes his body through the narrow streets of Rodorio Village, observed by the astonished villagers. Upon reaching the entrance to the Twelve Houses, the same girl previously attacked by the Judge, Agasha, asks him about Albafica's sacrifice. Shion replies that in wars, sacrifices are unfortunately necessary, and that he will give everything to avenge his friend. Suddenly, a Cosmos appears at the entrance to the Sanctuary through teleportation, a unique ability among the Lemurians. Atla, a young emissary from the Jamir region, appears; he informs Shion that Hades has the power to resurrect his own Specters, therefore, Minos and the others fallen in the Sanctuary could be resurrected. Shion and Atla go to the Patriarch, informing him of the situation; they also learn that Athena has placed a force field around the Sanctuary, preventing the fallen Specters from being resurrected. Days later, Hades himself visits Athena's Sanctuary. Shion, enraged, observes him from the Temple of Aries, increasing his Cosmos to try to fight the God, but quickly becomes immobilized by the power of the God of the Underworld. He searches for Tenma along with Dohko, given his imminent intention to leave the Sanctuary. After Thanatos is locked in Pandora's Box, Shion had a bad feeling after observing a shooting star reaching the Patriarch's chamber, so he quickly went there. Passing through the Temple of Cancer, he encountered the spirit of Manigold, who entrusts him with the Patriarch's Helmet of his master Sage, to deliver it to his master, the Silver Saint Hakurei of Altar.
History.
After the defeat of the Oneiros, Hakurei assumes the position of Patriarch of the Sanctuary without the knowledge of Athena's army; only Shion and Sísifo of Sagittarius knew. From the Temple of Aries, he listened attentively to the words his Master proclaimed to the entire Sanctuary; the attack of the entire Athenian army on Hades' territories was imminent. All the warriors of the Sanctuary, of all the orders of Saints, were ready to depart, with Sísifo of Sagittarius as the leader of the army. Disagreeing with this, Shion goes to the Patriarch's Temple to ask his Master to be the leader, and they begin to argue. Finally, Hakurei leaves the Temple, heading towards Hades' Cathedral. Sensing his master's intentions, Shion, along with his training partner Yuzuriha, head towards Hades' Castle, but upon arrival, their Cosmos are reduced to ten percent due to Hades' force field, and they are defeated. Later, when Hakurei arrives, he finds his disciples defeated in front of Hypnos. Shion reproaches him for his selfish attitude and tells him he is ready to die with him, so Hakurei says that his disciple's time has not yet come, since he must live for a better future. Then, Hakurei manages to seal Hypnos using a technique he perfected over 200 years, the Seki Shiki Tenryō Ha, with which he calls upon the souls of former Saints who fought with him in 1493. While attempting to break through the barrier of Hades' Castle, he is murdered by Hades before the eyes of Shion and Yuzuriha. Enraged, Shion attacks him with his Stardust Revolution, which proves ineffective due to the reduction of his power, and the attack is returned. Hades attacks him, but Dohko and Tenma arrive.
History.
Shion, Dohko, Tenma, and Yuzuriha are astonished by Hades' power. Pegasus and Libra fight him, but Dohko finally orders everyone to leave. The destruction of the Castle is imminent, and along with Yuzuriha and Tenma, they leave, leaving Dohko behind, who sacrificed himself for his comrades. Afterwards, Shion is seen with Sisyphus and Sasha in the Patriarch's chamber, being informed by the Silver Saint of the Crow that with Hades in heaven and Italy lifted into the heights, the Lost Canvas was almost complete. While the situation was unfolding in Jamir to recover the ship that would take them to heaven where Hades is, Shion remains in the Sanctuary to give some of his blood to restore the armors fallen in past battles, telling Sisyphus that he could feel the weeping and the desire to fight of those armors, that despite no longer having owners, they wanted to fight. Later, he arrives in Jamir with a group of Silver and Bronze Saints, along with Athena, to depart for the Lost Canvas. He then joins Sisyphus and Regulus to execute the forbidden technique, the Exclamation of Athena, which is accepted by the Goddess herself, in order to open the door that would lead to the Lost Canvas. Along with Regulus of Leo, Tenma, and Sasha, they are not turned to stone upon arrival and are taken in Charon's boat across the Acheron to the shore of the Lost Canvas; finally, Charon's sermon leads Shion to finish him off with a Stardust Revolution. During the incursion into the temples, in the Temple of Mercury, Shion and Regulus are immediately paralyzed until Yōma of Mephistopheles appears, who, after speaking with Tenma, lets them continue through the other temples. Once in the Temple of Venus, Shion encounters Lune of Balrog, whom he seems to know.
History.
Lune had received Hades' grace and this time was on par with one of the judges of Hell, making the fight initially difficult for the Aries Saint. Using his Reincarnation technique, Lune exposes Shion's sins and reproaches him for not having acquired all the world's knowledge before following in the footsteps of his master Hakurei and becoming a Saint. After a hard fight, Shion and Lune reach the Eighth Prison of the Underworld, Cocytus. Despite his wounds from Balrog's whip, Shion rises after hearing the souls of the Saints buried there, who were Hakurei's companions 200 years ago. They tell Shion that he will be a link connecting the past and future generations of Saints, so Shion sees himself in the future as the Sanctuary's Patriarch and leader of all Athena's Saints. Finally, Shion uses his master's ultimate technique, Seki Shiki Tenryō Ha, using the souls of fallen warriors to destroy his rival. After his fight with Lune, Shion is known to have passed through all the temples before the Temple of Jupiter without problems, arriving just as Regulus disappears and realizing that Rhadamantys was still alive, with whom he has a short conversation before Rhadamantys escapes Shion. Finally, thanks to Aspros of Gemini, he arrives with Dohko of Libra and Tenma of Pegasus before Hades. After the fight between Pegasus, Sasha, and the Emperor of the Underworld, everyone's hopes were on the verge of extinction until Shion summons the twelve golden armors and, surprisingly, the Twelve Golden Knights of the 18th century gather in a powerful attack against Hades, who had fully manifested himself.
History.
This forces him to flee to the Temple of Pluto, while being followed by Tenma and Sasha, not before Sasha gives Dohko and Shion their respective missions. Shion, who remained unconscious after the attack by the Twelve Saints, is appointed Pope by Athena, and Dohko gives him the gift of the Misopethamenos. Both later appear on Earth, with their armor shattered beside a destroyed Sanctuary. Knowing the fate that Athena, Tenma, and Alone would have, both Golden Saints say goodbye. Shion would spend over 200 years holding the title of Patriarch and his mission would be to rebuild the Sanctuary, create a new order of Saints to await the final battle against Emperor Hades, where the Saints who would change the fate of the world would appear: the Bronze Saints. Shion can be seen at the end of the era wearing the mantle of the Patriarch, a rank entrusted to him by Sasha. At first, he seems desolate and worried, but he suddenly realizes that all is not lost when he receives Teneo. It's time to rebuild the Sanctuary. At some unknown time, Shion appoints Teneo as the Golden Saint of Taurus to continue the reconstruction of the sanctuary alongside him. Six years after the Holy War, Shion entrusts him with the mission of going to Sicily, where the now-imprisoned Typhon under Etna might not have been correctly sealed 14 years ago. Therefore, it is vital to prevent a giant resurgence, especially considering the small number of troops available at the time in the Sanctuary.
History.
Two hundred years passed. Shion, on Star Hill, awaited the arrival of the first Golden Saint at the Sanctuary, signaled by a shooting star. He awakened Dohko, who was guarding the waterfall at the Five Peaks, informing him that a baby would soon be born somewhere on Earth and teleported to the Sanctuary. Then, Shion saw a shooting star fall towards the Temple of Gemini, but Dohko observed that it was three shooting stars, one of them Ker's ill-omened star. Shion arrived at the Temple of Gemini and found two babies, believing them to be the future Gemini Saints. However, Shion found a third baby, thinking that the Gemini Saints would be three children. Dohko told him that this baby was Ker's ill-omened star and that he must eliminate it, but Shion refused, as even if it was the enemy, he couldn't kill a baby. The third baby possessed one of the other babies, leaving it unconscious along with the others. The goddess Ker erased the memory of the third baby from Shion and Dohko's minds to prevent suspicion. Seeing that the next war against Hades was imminent, Shion decided to train a young man of his own race, named Mu, to become the next Aries Saint and guardian of the Temple of Aries. When the Goddess appeared at the foot of the Great Statue, Shion decided to choose his successor among the Twelve Golden Saints. He could have chosen older Silver or Bronze Saints for the position (he mentions this himself), but following the tradition of choosing the next Pope from among the Golden Saints, he proclaimed Aiolos of Sagittarius as the new Pope. Saga of Gemini, who was also a candidate to be Patriarch, accepted his defeat and promised to help Aiolos with his duties.
History.
After a day, Shion feels a bad premonition and decides to see his student, Mu of Aries, who was warming up in the Sanctuary before returning to training in Jamir, since Mu and the other Saints felt weak because Shion hadn't considered any of them for the Patriarch position, so they decided to train again to become stronger. Shion decides to test Mu's skills during his warm-up and tells him he still needs to improve a little. Shion tells Mu he has a bad feeling, so he tells Mu that if he notices anything strange, he should immediately go to the old master Dohko of Libra without hesitation, and then Shion leaves. In Star Hill, Shion peacefully observes the movements of the stars, realizing that the War would begin sooner than he thought because Athena's seal was weak, when he is interrupted by Saga. The Patriarch reprimands him for being completely forbidden to enter that place, however Saga's intentions were to find out why Shion hadn't chosen him as successor. That's when Shion says he felt the seed of evil deep in Saga's heart. Hearing this, the Golden Saint begins to behave strangely, his hair starts to change color and, before an astonished Shion, Saga takes advantage of the situation to murder him with a precise blow to the heart that pierces him. Thus Shion dies and Saga impersonates him for 13 years.
History.
Thirteen years after his assassination, Athena grows up and, along with her Bronze Saints of Hope, she shows the Sanctuary that Saga was an imposter patriarch and removes Saga's evil side. Athena decides to forgive him, but Saga commits suicide for all his mistakes; many Silver and Gold Saints also died in that battle. Later, Poseidon, manipulated by Kanon, Saga's twin brother, starts a war, but the Bronze Saints and Saori manage to defeat Poseidon. The goddess Ker is pleased that the demon she placed in Saga weakened both Athena's and Poseidon's armies, and it seems like the time to attack the Sanctuary has come. However, she comes up with another idea: to revive the saints who died during Saga's rebellion, as they know the Sanctuary and the tricks of the living saints better than anyone, and there would be no casualties if they fought in her army. Shion is resurrected by Hades to attack the Sanctuary. After remembering his death and seeing the souls of his comrades-in-arms from past centuries in Cocytus, he joins the other "traitors." Shion devises a plan: since he died early, he didn't manage to teach the future patriarch the ability to revive Athena's armor. Therefore, if Athena fights without protection, she will suffer serious injuries from the attacks of the God of the Underworld. So, his plan will be to pretend to be on Hades' side, but it's all a ruse to reach Athena's temple and revive Athena's armor. So Shion accepts the deal and is revived wearing the Aries surplice. Then, presumably, Ker modified Shion's memories, making him believe that Hades revived them. Thus, Shion leads the group of revived Saints.
History.
Unfortunately, Shion realizes they cannot tell any of the living Saints their plan, as they are being watched by underworld butterflies, and if they make a mistake, they will be eliminated. Therefore, they have no choice but to fight their comrades, pretending to be part of Hades' army, until they reach Athena's temple. They revive some of the Silver Saints who died in the Sanctuary Civil War: Misty of Lizard, Moses of Whale, Babel of Centaurus, Algol of Perseus, Capella of Auriga, Dante of Cerberus, Algethi of Hercules, Dio of Musca, and Sirius of Canis Major. Once in the Sanctuary, Shion encounters Mū of Aries, his former disciple, who is powerless against his former master. The arrival of Dohko of Libra completely changes the situation; once again, face to face, Shion confronts Dohko after more than two centuries. When Saga, Camus, and Shura hide their cosmos to avoid being attacked by Shaka of Virgo, Shion believes his allies are defeated and sets out to ascend to Athena's Temple with the supposed intention of assassinating her, but is stopped by Dohko. Once again, after more than two hundred years, they face off. The situation favors Shion; due to his power and youth, Dohko is unable to do anything and falls severely wounded after receiving the Stardust Revolution. Shiryū of Dragon arrives to help his Master, but they can do nothing against the power of the former Patriarch. Finally, the Saint of Libra makes the decision and reveals Misopethamenos (a state of half-death, used by the Gods), managing to return to his youth and becoming equal to Shion. Everything ends in a great explosion that completely destroys the area around the Temple of Aries, caused by the collapse of the Stardust Revolution and the Rozan Hyaku Ryū Ha.
History.
Shion's Cosmos, as well as that of his opponent, are extinguished for several hours. In the anime, both are seen in the ruins of the explosion, observing the collision between the Exclamations of Athena. The former Pope sets out to achieve his mission at all costs, so he ascends the 12 Temples of the Sanctuary followed by Dohko, who apparently already knew the true intentions of his former comrade-in-arms. Shion finally reaches the Statue of Athena, encountering Seiya, Shiryū, Hyōga, and Shun, who still believe Shion is a traitor and attack him; they are unable to face the unparalleled power of the former Golden Saint. Shion explains everything to the Saints. Shion, with the Blood of Athena, finally revives Athena's cloth, but Shion didn't expect Athena to go to hell so quickly, so Shion gives Athena's Cloth to Seiya and entrusts him with the mission of delivering the cloth to the goddess, giving him hope for future battles. Finally, his time runs out and Shion dies again. Dohko apologizes to him and says that his death will not be in vain and that they will meet again soon.
Techniques/Attacks
•Crystal Wall: The user creates an impenetrable barrier between themselves and their opponent using psychic power. All attacks that hit this wall are returned to the opponent. This wall can be destroyed by striking a specific point. •Stardust Revolution: It is a technique in which the user throws attacks at the speed of light in the form of stars. • •Crystal Robe: Creates a protective barrier with psychic power. Any attack that hits it will be repelled, protecting the user. •Starlight Extinction: Technique that consists of projecting rings of immense light that envelop the opponent until their body disintegrates. •Force Soar: This involves using one's life force to create a shockwave that impacts the enemy in the form of a ram. Aries Shion crosses his arms, while his chest glows and sends a sufficiently powerful cosmos wave at the opponent in the form of an imposing ram. This uses the user's life force, which he refers to as the purest primal energy that evokes the soul of the Aries Constellation.
