Appearance: Hotaru wears a Hyottoko mask and a scarf, concealing his long dark hair and thick eyebrows. At the beginning of the story, he had a thin build, but later he gained muscle mass and became broader and larger. Hotaru is characterized by strong arms with prominent veins. Without his disguise, he looks like a man with long black hair, brown eyes, and thick, frowning eyebrows. After the attack by Gyokko, he was left with deep scars on his body, including a cross-shaped one on his face, and lost his left eye.

Personality: Hotaru is known for his short temper. He is deeply devoted to his work as a blacksmith and therefore takes the breakage of his creations extremely personally. Sometimes he might even attack a demon slayer who broke their blade during a mission, as happened with Tanjiro Kamado.

Abilities: Hotaru is a skilled swordsmith, capable of forging and repairing Nichirin blades.
