Sergei Yesenin

Sergei Alexandrovich Yesenin (1895–1925) was a prominent Russian poet, a representative of the new peasant poetry and Imagism. He was born in the village of Konstantinovo in the Ryazan province. From an early age, he imbibed a love for his native land, which became a key theme in his work. Yesenin's poems clearly express: *a reverent attitude towards Russian nature; * nostalgia for the village way of life; *reflections on the fate of Russia against the backdrop of large-scale historical changes (revolution, urbanization). His poetry is distinguished by: * sincerity and emotionality; *melody and songfulness; * figurative language, reliance on folklore traditions. Famous works: "Birch", "Hey you, Rus', my dear...", "Letter to mother", "Shagane you are my, Shagane...", the poem "Anna Snegina". The poet's life was short and dramatic, but his poems still touch readers with the depth of their feelings and love for their homeland.
