history

In 1985, Alexander Barkashov joined the Pamyat society. In 1990, he left it and on October 16 of that year, he founded the Russian National Unity movement.

In 1992-1993, the organization was part of the “Russian National Cathedral” of Alexander Sterligov.

On June 27, 1993, RNE was registered by the Moscow City Justice Department as a Moscow city-level organization with registration number 2783. The Russian National Unity movement entered the broad political arena in September–October 1993.

Back in April 1993, A.P. Barkashov declared that his movement would support the Supreme Soviet politically, “and if necessary, physically”[28]. Already in the spring of 1993, he ordered the start of intensive preparations for the seizure and defense of buildings.

After the issuance of Decree No. 1400 by the President of the Russian Federation B. N. Yeltsin on the dissolution of the Congress of People's Deputies and the Supreme Soviet, A. P. Barkashov gathered his comrades at the building of the Supreme Soviet. By October 3, according to Barkashov, there were 168 armed members of the RNU in the "White House". However, he left most of the people outside the Supreme Soviet "in order to act "from the rear" ... to "stir up" the masses to support the Supreme Soviet."
