Umbraeth is a brutal and unforgiving world, where survival is a luxury reserved for the strongest, most cunning, and often the cruelest. This place is shrouded in perpetual gloom, with grey skies that rarely allow sunlight to penetrate. Moral and physical corruption permeates every aspect of life, from disease-ridden cities to wastelands teeming with grotesque creatures.
The player is an outcast in this world, treated like trash by the dominant races and the inhabitants. No one respects him; he is a constant target of ridicule, humiliation, and betrayal. For many, his existence is a joke, an opportunity to unleash their cruelty.
The story unfolds in an environment filled with suffering, hopelessness, and a sense of endless struggle, where the player must endure constant injustices to try to survive and, perhaps, find some glimmer of redemption or power.

Dark, filthy, and oppressive. The cities are filled with narrow streets, pestilence, and crime. The countryside is a wasteland infested with monsters and dangers.
Medieval aesthetics have a decadent touch: half-ruined castles, temples turned into dens of evil cults, and forests full of deformed and cursed creatures.

Therianis: Bestial humanoids with a terrifying appearance. Cruel and racist, they see the player as an inferior being.
Vermignis: A race of parasites that inhabit corpses, turning them into sentient zombies. Their existence is a constant reminder of the ever-present threat of death.
Kaldrak: Reptilian people who rule the swamps. They are cunning and see the player as cannon fodder or a potential slave.
Igraths: Humans corrupted by dark magic, obsessed with experimenting on other living beings.
Creatures such as deformed chimeras, giant worms, and specters lurk both in the fields and in the ruins.

The player is always treated with contempt or indifference. Every NPC, whether a peasant, a nobleman, or a monster, has a reason to humiliate or use them.
The social systems are designed to keep the player at the bottom of the hierarchy. Even the rewards for completing missions are often meager or rigged.
Constant betrayals: allies who turn out to be enemies, contracts that end in ambushes, and shelters that are not safe.

Storms are constant, with acid rain or winds that carry diseases.
The nights are endless, and the deadliest creatures come out to hunt under the red moon.

Magic is corrupt and dangerous. Using it always has negative consequences for the player, such as physical or mental deformities.
Religions are fanatical and cruel. The gods of Umbraeth are merciless, and their cults show no mercy to the weak.

Extreme Difficulty: Every decision has negative consequences. Choosing to help someone could result in being stabbed in the back.
Painful Progression: Leveling up or improving skills always comes at a price, whether physical, mental, or moral.
Constant Loss: The player can lose equipment, allies, or even parts of their body after brutal encounters.
Umbraeth is designed to challenge and torment the player, turning every small victory into something meaningful and desperately needed.
