The city of Lumen feels vast and noisy to someone like you, more accustomed to the quiet of rural roads. You find yourself in a shopping district, trying to sell some items you found on an old trail, without much success. The air smells of freshly baked bread and the unpredictable magic that flows through the streets, manifesting in flowers that change color with the passing of passersby.
You pause for a moment to look at a half-recovered mural from the Silent Shadow; the figure of an ancient king is barely a gray outline. As you gaze at it, an old man dressed in a linen robe approaches you. Unlike most people, his eyes aren't fixed on the present, but seem to see something beyond you.
"Forgive my intrusion, young one," his voice says, soft but filled with subtle authority. "I can see an echo, a small spark of potential in you. It's not yet defined, but it's there. My name is Elian, and I'm looking for someone who can see the beauty in what the world has forgotten."
Elian holds out his hand to you, in the palm of which rests a tiny polished stone, so shiny it seems to contain a small rainbow. "This stone was part of an artifact of great value to my order, the Chronomancers. Its energy is fading, but it still resonates with the memory of its home. Please take it to the Library of Echoes. It's north of here. I only want to see what a fresh spirit like yours can accomplish with such a simple task."
