One of Nakamura's main characteristics is his shyness. He has a hard time interacting with people, to the point where he fails to properly communicate his thoughts despite practicing in his head. He tries to avoid social situations and confrontations at all costs due to his shy personality. Nakamura dislikes being the center of attention for fear of embarrassing himself. Nakamura can also be quite aloof, having a hard time opening up to others about what he likes, believing that people will judge him negatively for it. Another notable part of Nakamura is his clumsy personality, often getting himself into the comically embarrassing situations the series is known for, such as when he stepped on Hirose's napkin in an attempt to pick it up first.

Nakamura displays a sense of insecurity and low self-esteem, often speaking badly of himself for being a "total loser" and not believing that he and Hirose could become friends. However, this mindset is broken when Hirose's friends appear in the picture, in which Nakamura sees them as rivals or, in Oomori's case, inferiors. This behavior indirectly shows that he can be easily jealous or irritated with people who get in the way between him and Hirose.

However, Nakamura can be shown to be gentle and caring towards others. When it was revealed that Kawamura was too sick to play her role, Nakamura was willing to be a replacement at the last minute, using that action as a proper thank you for the manga she drew for him. Furthermore, Nakamura also gives Hirose a crab keychain as a gift, seeing as how Hirose was admiring the crabs in the aquarium.

Nakamura is also shown to be an emotional person, such as shedding a tear when Kawamura gives him the manga he asked for, getting emotional upon seeing his beloved octopus at the Yokohama Aquarium, or being unable to calm down

when he is nervous. Additionally, Nakamura can act without thinking when he is in his emotional state, such as when he fell down a large construction hole in front of him in an attempt to save Hirose, or when he smashes a wall out of desperation despite a sign reading "No Graffiti" hanging above it.

This emotional side carries over into his tastes, showing Nakamura to be very passionate and dedicated towards the things he loves or is interested in. A unique trait he has is his overwhelming love for octopuses, having several octopus figurines in his room and even owning one himself. Developing an interest in BL manga as a way to gain love advice, Nakamura takes notes in a very serious manner, treating a work of fiction as a dating guide. This dedicated side of him is especially seen in his love for Hirose, constantly trying to befriend him, seeking love advice from an unlikely source in order to get closer to Hirose, and even mustering up the courage to risk his life to save him from sexual assault. This dedication, however, occasionally reaches a point of obsession as Nakamura would steal a cassette tape to listen to Hirose's voice and sniff what was thought to be Hirose's P.E. uniform.

During Nakamura's time as an elementary school student, he had already developed a love for octopuses and is seen admiring them for their unique features. This was met with judgment from his peers and was likely one of the many reasons he had no friends due to his views. He was also shy and clumsy when he was young, as seen in a flashback where a teacher picked up a lost pair of underwear and asked who it belonged to. Out of embarrassment, Nakamura was unable to tell that the underwear was his.

Aiki Hirose: Nakamura has a crush on Hirose and always aspires to get close to him. During the beginning of the story, Nakamura is very self-conscious around Hirose, fearing that Hirose will avoid him if he makes any kind of mistake. Because of this, he hides many things about himself, such as that he loves octopus and that he likes to read BL books. However, he cares a lot about Hirose, caring when he had the stomach and risking his life to protect Hirose from criminals.

Nakamura greatly admires Hirose, perhaps to the point of obsession. When drawing him, Nakamura carefully observes every part of Hirose, stating how attractive he is. Nakamura is also seen observing Hirose often from a distance and is very jealous of his friends for being close to Hirose. Nakamura has apparently developed an interest in smelling Hirose as well in the sequel. Oomori: Nakamura is jealous of Oomori, as he is one of Hirose's closest friends. Whenever Oomori and Hirose are seen interacting, Nakamura becomes envious and angry, thinking that Oomori is more of a loser than him. Other than that, Nakamura and Oomori do not interact much, and Nakamura seems to act neutral in the moments when he is around. Sou Otogiri: Nakamura and Otogiri don't interact very often, and he mostly talks to Otogiri if he's doing homework for him. When Hirose develops an admiration for Otogiri, Nakamura begins to envy Otogiri but doesn't dislike him, seeing the reason why Hirose admires him and admitting that Otogiri is a cool person. Hifumi Kawamura: Nakamura admires Kawamura's drawing skills the moment he saw her drawing of Hirose, claiming to be a fan. When Nakamura saw her drawings, Nakamura asks her to draw him and Hirose hanging out together, being very grateful for her service. Nakamura was also willing to help her by being a replacement for the role Kawamura was supposed to play in "Night of the Shooting Stars".

Arandou Tamura Nakamura is more tolerant of Tamura, often being forced to be in his film projects without him having a say in it. However, unlike Aokiyama, Nakamura has a more positive relationship with Tamura due to his game being the reason he and Hirose get closer. Reiko Aokiyama Much like Tamura, Nakamura is often forced to get involved in her club projects without her sayings. Nakamura tries to avoid her as much as possible due to her forceful personality, almost tricking him into joining the Occult Research Club and him being used as a sacrifice in one of her rituals. Icchan Icchan is Nakamura's pet octopus, and he cares for and loves it dearly. Icchan also appears in one of Nakamura's dreams, which can be interpreted as Nakamura thinking about Icchan often. Icchan also escapes from his tank seemingly quite often and once even clings to Nakamura's face while he sleeps, in which Nakamura dismisses him and forgives Icchan for it. Kana Nakamura Being her sister, she and Nakamura have a relatively down-to-earth sibling relationship, clashing often but still caring for each other. Nakamura mostly acts neutral around her, once dismissing her tantrum over the cookie he accidentally ate and not treating her insults as a big deal. Nakamura sees Kana as a pain at times, and it seems like Kana is the dominating sibling between the two. Takeuchi Nakamura does not have a good relationship with Takeuchi. He is very envious of him for being friends with Hirose and once flirting with Hirose for three days straight. This dislike is further intensified by Takeuchi's spoiled and unfriendly personality. Nakamura constantly picks on him as revenge, such as taking photos of him but only focusing on Hirose, aggressively cleaning to get dust on him, etc.

Ko Matsumura Nakamura and Matsumura immediately shared a heated rivalry due to their obsession with Hirose, competing to see which of them is closer to Hirose. Nakamura sees Matsumura as an obsessive creep and someone he needs to protect Hirose from. Mr. Niou Nakamura in general seems to have a negative perception of Mr. Niou due to his aloof and strict attitude. Mr. Niou, on the other hand, is unaware of Nakamura's opinion of him, but still cares for his well-being. When Nakamura falls ill from drinking too much protein, he takes it upon himself to help Nakamura get in shape by giving him a workout routine, much to Nakamura's disappointment.
