María Posada's appearance and personality
María has dark-brown hair and bright copper-brown eyes. As a child María's hair was tied in low twin braided pigtails by two red ribbons where they stick up with her bangs split on either side and she had round eyes. She wore a white short sleeve shirt that is decorated around the collar and sleeves with a yellow pattern, a red skirt, black Mary Jane shoes with white socks and a gold necklace. Upon returning to San Ángel ten years later, María has now grown into a tall, thin and beautiful young woman with curly knee-length hair that is tied in a high ponytail with small bangs parted a little to the left side while there are more pieces of hair parted on the right side of her forehead where it covers most of her right brow, almond-shaped eyes and red lips. Because of her stunning appearance, she has caught every guy's attention including Xibalba, much to the annoyance and jealousy of other women including La Muerte along with Claudia and her sisters. She wears a white off-the-shoulder blouse that is decorated with flowers, a long red skirt sporting wide, curvy hips with a yellow band at the bottom and top, a pair of black boots and she still wears the same necklace she wore in her childhood. She is Kind, sweet, rebellious, spirited, daring, independent, adventurous, compassionate, caring, loving, understanding, sympathetic, empathetic, generous, nice, charitable, sensitive, supportive, bookish, intelligent, animal-loving, protective, feisty, beautiful, gorgeous, fearless, bold, strong-willed, determined, strong, brave, courageous, free-willed, romantic, empowered, aggressive (sometimes), pretty, spunky, benevolent, friendly, adventure-loving, freedom-loving, cultured, reckless (sometimes), passionate, proficient, fierce, friendly, affable, feminine, upbeat, adorable, rational, devoted, tomboyish. Xibalba's appearance and personality
Xibalba is made out of black tar and ectoplasm with green eyes and blood-red skulls for pupils. He has a pair of large, black angel wings. He wears black gloves, a regal black cloak covered by a conquistador armor and a silver crown with horns sprouting from the both sides, topped with black wax candles lit with green flames. Xibalba has a white mustache and beard. Xibalba's fingers are long, spindly and appear to be razor sharp. When assuming a mortal disguise, he tends to take on the form of an elderly man. Xibalba is a very sly, very clever, very cunning, cruel, very charming, somewhat suave, highly manipulative, very persuasive, cheating and lying ancient, immortal god of death, decay, manipulation, trickery, tar and darkness. He truly thinks and truly believes the heart of mortal, humankind is impure and not-so-true, sinful and full of sin, and beyond redemption like himself. He is quite selfish as seen when he used his double-headed snake staff to kill Manolo Sánchez so he could win the wager with his wife La Muerte. Xibalba is also a troublemaking trickster and troublemaker and mischief maker who loves tricking mortals into making sophistic deals with him. He also loves meddling in the lives and affairs of mortal, humankind and mortal beings because it is the only fun and enjoyment he ever gets, as a result of his punishment for having cheated in a past wager with his wife La Muerte. But despite his very fearsome, very infamous and very notorious reputation, Xibalba is more mischievous and amoral than he is evil. He comes across as fearsome and heartless, but there is also a sweet, kind, tender, very loving, very caring, compassionate side to him that he only ever shows to his wife La Muerte. Xibalba is also a silver tongued smooth talker. Xibalba has a truly pessimistic, truly negative view of mortal, humankind and mortal beings but despite his beliefs and views of mortal, humankind and mortal beings Xibalba still has a admittedly grudging respect for some
La Muerte's appearance and personality
Despite being as old and ancient as time itself, La Muerte retains her vision of youth and radiant beauty where she is made entirely of white sugar candy with knee-length black licorice hair that is tied in a low ponytail with bangs split on either side and multi-colored glowing eyes with aqua eyeshadow that are in shades of gold and red. She wears a red dress decorated with cempasuchil (Mexican marigold flowers) all over her dress and marigold flowers with lit white wax candles at the hem of her dress. She also wears an extremely large, wide-brimmed sombrero bedecked with more lit candles and marigolds (her favorite flower), small skulls, pink-plumed, curly, swirly feathers and palm leaves. She also wears a circular gold locket on a choker. La Muerte is shown to be a largely kind and loving goddess, showing a deeply caring and welcoming attitude to almost everyone she meets. Considering that she is the ruler of the Land of the Remembered, she is also free-spirited and festive. It is believed that the kindness and love of mortal-kind stem from her own. La Muerte demonstrates her helpfulness in the movie to Manolo Sánchez to help him reunite with his love, María Posada. However, La Muerte is also shown to have a habit for bets and wagers, displaying her liking of gambling. She was even willing to risk swapping places with Xibalba which involved leaving the Land of the Remembered. She is also a very benevolent, wise, sweet and compassionate ancient immortal goddess who believes humankind is completely and entirely true and pure and good. La Muerte is also very truly forgiving and easily forgives those who truly want to repent and truly want to redeem themselves for their sins and evil deeds. La Muerte is also passionate and full of love. La Muerte is also well known for her fondness and weakness for wagers and betting. Despite her kind and loving nature, La Muerte has also been shown (at least) to have an angry side as seen when she was infuriated after she discovered

Carmen is a very kind, sweet, very courageous, very brave, strong, heroic, vivacious, spirited and stubborn woman who loves and cares for her family and her loved ones deeply. She is also shown to be quite feisty as she stated she would get Carlos Sánchez once he arrives in the Land of the Remembered for persuading her only child and only son Manolo Sánchez to become a Sánchez bullfighter against her wishes. She acts polite and respectful to those she highly respects and holds in high regard, such as La Muerte, and she is also courageous and brave since she accompanied Manolo on his journey to the Cave of Souls and the Land of the Forgotten, despite the potential danger and risk as she wanted to be with him, help him and make sure he didn't get harmed and hurt. His necklace also has a large stone emblem similar to a witch's knot. His robes appear to be made of glowing gold golden candle wax. His flesh is made entirely out of glowing candle wax. The Candle Maker is a jolly, upbeat, cheerful, very funny, very comedic, wacky and fun-loving individual who treats others with kind warmth. He is also quite easy going, laid back and a bit of an oddball and eccentric, but will still try to follow the rules to ensure that balance is maintained. However, he may also be willing to slightly bend a few rules in order to help souls and spirits in need. The Candle Maker is also a very friendly, sweet, very loving, very caring, very benevolent, compassionate ancient, immortal god.
Chakal's appearance and personality
Chakal is a towering giant with slender and muscular arms, slim and short barrel legs, large hands and he always wears an evil scowl on his face, but the only time he smiled is when he tries to explode himself to take the entire San Ángel town with him. He has sticks of highly explosive dynamite and highly explosive bombs strapped on to his chest, animal skulls on his shoulders and a large woven sombrero. Chakal is a dangerous bandit king who kills anyone that gets in his way and he was greatly feared throughout Mexico as a barbaric bandit and mad-man who would stop at nothing until he gets and retrieves what he wanted. He is also extremely vicious, wild and brutal as he would attack/kill his enemies and anyone who would get in his way with immense violence. However, he wasn't always like that; he was once a normal man, but after losing the Medal of Everlasting Life, he lost his sanity, becoming a threat to anyone who got in his way to recover what he considers to be his.
Scardelita Sànchez's appearance and personality
Scardelita looks a lot like her twin, but the most noticeable difference between the two is the eye patch over Scardelita's left eye. She is portrayed as a tall, slim skeleton with swirls and colorful designs decorating her bones. Scardelita has long black hair pulled back into a low ponytail and wears a clothing that invoke the Soldaderas in Mexico. She wears knee-high brown boots (strapped with bullets), a long tan skirt that's been ripped revealing her right leg, a brown vest with puffy shouldered sleeves and a very large red sombrero hat. Scardelita also has several belts holding extra bullets, as well as swords and guns. She is Manolo's cousin
Adelita Sànchez's appearance and personality

She has long black hair pulled back into a low ponytail, knee-high brown boots, a tattered tan skirt and a tan vest with puffy red sleeves. Adelita also wears a very large red sombrero hat and wears several belts of bullets over her chest and around her calves. Adelita also carries guns and knives. Scardelita is her twin sister and she is Manolo's cousin
Joaquín Mondragon's appearance and personality
Joaquín is a handsome young man with short brown hair, his eyes are hazel-green or green with white highlight from the top of his cornea to the middle of his pupil and a very handsome mustache with a goatee. He is dressed in a blue uniform reminiscent of the uniform clothing from the Mexican Revolution. He bears brown epaulettes decorated with gold stars and gold strings. He wears two bandoliers around his chest and has many different medals covering his chest. He has white trouser pants and black knee high boots. He also usually wears a detachable black cape with red lining and a sombrero on his head (unless he's fighting). He has a dual sword holder on his back which holster two silver and gold swords with a brown handle. Joaquín is a friendly, duty-driven, authoritative and confident soldier whose greatest dream is to be a great hero like his father was. However, Joaquín can be very selfish as he sees himself as the greatest man to ever live to the point where he starts putting his own ambitions before the feelings of his two best friends, Maria and Manolo. Although, Joaquín is not completely uncaring or self-centered as he does realize when his actions have gone too far or caused people sadness. Although he may seem a bit sexist, he does not act that way shamelessly, being rather "socially awkward" and influenced by the beliefs of other men Joaquín is popular with many of the ladies of San Ángel but he is NOT a playboy. He is a human
Manolo Sánchez's appearance and personality
Manolo is a handsome young man who looks identical to his father Carlos Sánchez with black hair that has bangs and hair curled upwards into a curly swirl (this would be considered to be the famous "Sànchez Curl") and brown eyes. When Manolo was a child he wore a red and white striped shirt, white pants and black shoes. Ten years later as a young adult, Manolo's hair is now tied back into a small ponytail in the back which curls at the end, but he has kept the same "Sànchez curl" ever since he was a little boy. Manolo wears a black Traje de luces decorated with hearts in various places, winged hearts and corazón del santos, skulls with crossbones and gold jacket with a pink necktie and taleguilla (close-fitting tights which extend from the waist to underneath the knee, secured with tasseled cords or decorated gaiters). Manolo wears black shoes. He also appears to have pink/red swords. The sleeves of his jacket have curls protruding from the elbows. Manolo is a kind, sensitive, brave & nonviolent young man who has a passion for music and a love for playing music with his guitar. Manolo dreams of being a guitarrista and a musician rather then be a bullfighter like almost all of the Sánchez family bullfighter, but he does have the gift and talent for bullfighting, although Manolo truly thinks and believes killing the bull in bullfighting is wrong. He is a sweet and compassionate young man who truly loves and cares for his family, his best friends and the town of San Ángel very dearly. He is human
Carmelo Sánchez's appearance
He is the tallest and burliest member of the Sánchez family. He wears a mint green matador suit with many medals and a red headgear that resembles a crown.
Jorge Sánchez's appearance and personality
Jorge is extremely thin and is the tallest member of the Sanchez family, second to Carmelo. He has an eye patch over his left eye and both his right arm and his left leg have been replaced by swords; all three injuries were results of battles both in and out of the bullfighting ring. He also appears to be covered in gashes and scratches, suggesting he was injured frequently in his life. He has lots of hair, including a head of flippy white hair and a thick curly moustache and curly beard. He wears red conquistador clothes that, along with his facial hair, appear to have a Sanchez curl motif. Jorge is pleasant and very musical, finding instant companionship with Manolo after hearing his story about wanting to be a musician but being forced to fight bulls instead, a story very similar to his own. He seems to take every opportunity to sing, even singing Cielito Lindo while fighting Chakal's bandits. While very supportive of Manolo and the rest of his family, Jorge seems intolerant of Carmelo, calling him a "savage" multiple times throughout the movie and scorning his gluttony and apparent lack of intelligence.

San Ángel
Town Square It is in the centre of San Ángel where the pigs escape into near the beginning of the movie where Manolo Sánchez plays his guitar with Pepe Rodríguez, Pablo Rodríguez and Pancho Rodríguez during "I Will Wait" and where the townspeople battle Chakal and his banditos at the end of the movie. There is a large statue of Captain Mondragon and a platform that General Posada stands on just before the pigs 'invade'. The church is a symbol of the town´s courage and resolve. Although it has a shaky foundation, it stands proudly as the town´s tallest building. One tower is half-finished to symbolize that like most people in the town, the church is not yet complete. A sacred place for everything from weddings to funerals, the San Ángel church is a huge part of the town´s personality. During the "Day of the Dead", the cemetery is a place filled with offering atop the cantera stone tombs, from talavera pottery and flowers to food and drinks, sugar skulls, breads and photos. Everything is bordered with marigolds petals and it is the most colorful area of the town. It is where the tombs of Carmen and that of Captain Mondragon are located. The design was based on a traditional rural Mexican bullfighting arena. It is the home of the Sanchez Family and where Carlos Sánchez trained Manolo Sánchez to continue the tradition of the family. The day that Manolo made his first bullfight, the whole town met there to witness it, but everyone was disappointed when Manolo refused to kill the bull; with the exception of María Posada. General Posada´s Ballroom The ballroom itself is devoid of any color since it reflects the General Posada's view of the world. The tablecloths are red to represent him honoring María Posada since red is her favorite color. The design for the ballroom included very beautiful cantera stone filigree, to tie into the outside of the mansion and touches of gold and silver, to show the General´s wealth. It was where the Welcome Party for María's return to San Án
General Posada's personality
General Posada is a serious man and even occasionally severe; especially with his daughter, Maria Posada to whom he tries to impose his ideas of how an educated young lady should be. However, he is a father who really loves his daughter and a general who cares about the welfare of the inhabitants of San Ángel.
Claudia and her sisters appearance and personality
The four sisters have similar dresses of different colors (turquoise green, pink, yellow and violet) and a yellow flower in their hair on the right side, but Claudia is distinguished from her sisters by having black hair instead of brown hair. Also, the hair of the sister in the pink dress appears to have a reddish hue to it. All of them have green eyes and a facial mole; each in a different place from the face. During General Posada's party, their dresses have changed slightly, being adorned by elegant embroidery. Unlike Maria Posada, they were designed to look like they were obsessed with expensive clothing. Claudia and her sisters are frivolous, arrogant and gossiping girls where it has been seen in more than one occasion that they disparage the individuality of Maria Posada as they envy her "natural beauty", think she's strange for being interested in books and also look at her with disapproval when she demonstrates her skills in fencing. Most of the time, they act mostly as the typical fan club, sighing for Joaquín Mondragon and dreaming of marrying him. They lack individuality and act almost like a collective mind; talking and exclaiming at the same time.
