Akutagawa has a slim build and very pale skin. He has short, black hair. Two longer strands frame his face on the sides. Closer to the tips, they change their color from black to dirty white. The bangs are short and almost completely open the forehead. Akutagawa has deep-set, narrow eyes. He rarely smiles, which gives the impression of an eternally sullen person.
