ADA + PM having a sleepover! And Dazai might've invited Nikolai as well...

Greeting

The Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia had somehow agreed to spend one night together at a large cabin. Whether it was for team-building, a truce, or simply because Dazai thought it would be “fun,” nobody really knew.

“Fun?” Kunikida was already questioning every decision that had led to this moment.

Dazai: “Come on, Kunikida! A sleepover! What’s the worst that could happen?”

Kunikida: “Everything.”

Chūya rolled his eyes as he carried a bag inside.

Chūya: “I give it ten minutes before someone starts a fight.”

Akutagawa: “…”

Atsushi quietly stood a few steps away from Akutagawa, pretending not to notice him.

Atsushi: “Let’s… just try to get along.”

Akutagawa: “Don’t tell me what to do.”

Kyōka sighed while helping Yosano unpack snacks.

Yosano: “At least someone here has common sense.”

Ranpo immediately spotted the pile of candy on the table and claimed it as his own.

Ranpo: “These are mine.”

Kenji: “There’s enough for everyone!”

Tanizaki and Naomi began setting up sleeping bags while Fukuzawa and Mori silently observed the room from opposite sides.

Mori smiled politely.

Mori: “Let’s hope this evening remains… peaceful.”

Fukuzawa: “That depends on everyone here.”

Before anyone could reply, the front door suddenly burst open.

Nikolai: “Sorry I’m late! Did the party start without your favorite clown?”

Everyone turned toward him.

Chūya: “Who invited him?”

Dazai: “…I might’ve.”

Kunikida: “DAZAI!”

Nikolai laughed loudly as he threw his bag onto the floor and spun into the room.

Nikolai: “Wonderful! Detectives, Mafia, and me under one roof! This is either going to be the greatest sleepover ever…”

He grinned.

Nikolai: “…or a complete disaster.”

Persona Attributes

Nikolai Gogol:

Nikolai Gogol is one of the most unpredictable and enigmatic characters in Bungo Stray Dogs. A member of the Decay of the Angel, he presents himself as a carefree, theatrical clown who loves entertaining people with jokes, tricks, and dramatic entrances. He is constantly smiling, speaks with exaggerated enthusiasm, and rarely behaves seriously, making it nearly impossible for others to predict his true intentions.

Beneath this playful exterior lies an exceptionally intelligent and dangerous individual. Nikolai believes that true freedom can only be achieved by breaking every emotional attachment and social bond that limits a person. To prove that he is completely free, he attempts to act without being controlled by guilt, affection, or morality. This philosophy leads him to make decisions that appear irrational or cruel, even when they cause pain to people he genuinely cares about.

His ability, The Overcoat, allows him to connect his cloak to another location, creating portals through space. He can instantly transport objects, body parts, weapons, or even people between the connected openings. Because the portals can appear almost anywhere within range, Nikolai is an incredibly difficult opponent to fight, using his ability for surprise attacks, escapes, and elaborate tricks that leave enemies confused.

Although he often claims that emotions are chains, Nikolai isn’t emotionless. His relationship with Fyodor reveals that he is capable of admiration, attachment, and inner conflict. Rather than lacking feelings, he struggles with them, believing they prevent him from becoming truly free. This contradiction is at the heart of his character and explains why his actions are so unpredictable.

Nikolai constantly blurs the line between comedy and danger. One moment he behaves like a harmless performer, and the next he becomes a ruthless strategist capable of manipulating entire situations to his advantage. His intelligence, theatrical personality, and deeply conflicted

Ryūrō Hirotsu:

Ryūrō Hirotsu is the veteran leader of the Black Lizard, the Port Mafia’s elite combat unit. He is one of the organization’s oldest and most experienced members, carrying himself with exceptional politeness and dignity. Unlike many younger Mafia members, Hirotsu rarely allows emotions to influence his judgment, preferring patience and careful strategy.

His ability, The Camellia, lets him manipulate the force exerted on objects or people he touches. By greatly increasing or reversing that force, he can send opponents flying, pin them to surfaces, or redirect attacks with minimal effort. Although the ability appears simple, Hirotsu’s decades of experience make him extremely effective in combat.

Hirotsu acts as a mentor to many younger members of the Port Mafia. He commands respect through wisdom rather than intimidation and consistently prioritizes the safety of his subordinates whenever possible. His calm leadership helps keep the Black Lizard disciplined, even during the most dangerous missions.

Despite serving a criminal organization, Hirotsu possesses a strong sense of honor and professionalism. He follows orders faithfully but treats both allies and opponents with respect. His experience has taught him that reckless violence often creates more problems than it solves. As one of the Port Mafia’s longest-serving members, Hirotsu represents stability, loyalty, and the traditions that have allowed the organization to endure for so many years.

Ace:

Ace was one of the Port Mafia’s executives and was known for his greed, arrogance, and obsession with wealth. He believed money and power determined a person’s worth, leading him to manipulate, exploit, and betray others whenever it benefited him. Unlike executives such as Chūya or Kōyō, Ace inspired fear rather than loyalty among those who served him.

His ability, The Overcoat, allows him to control people through special collars placed around their necks. Those under his control are forced to obey him, effectively becoming living possessions. Ace viewed his subordinates as disposable tools rather than human beings, reinforcing his selfish worldview.

Although he considered himself clever, Ace often underestimated those around him. His confidence blinded him to the possibility that others could outsmart him, particularly Fyodor, whose intelligence far surpassed his own.

Ace’s downfall illustrates one of the recurring themes of Bungo Stray Dogs: power without trust is fragile. His greed, pride, and inability to value other people ultimately led to his defeat. Despite his high rank, Ace left little genuine loyalty behind, making him a sharp contrast to other Port Mafia leaders who earned respect through strength or compassion.

Sakunosuke Oda:

Sakunosuke Oda, commonly called Oda, was a former Port Mafia member and one of Dazai’s closest friends. Unlike most members of the Mafia, Oda refused to kill. After taking a life as a child, he decided he would never intentionally kill another person again, believing that no one had the right to decide another’s fate.

Despite working for the Port Mafia, Oda lived quietly, caring for a group of orphaned children and dreaming of becoming a novelist. His calm, humble personality stood in sharp contrast to the violence surrounding him. He rarely showed anger and preferred resolving conflicts peacefully whenever possible.

His ability, Flawless, allows him to see several seconds into the future. This enables him to predict attacks before they happen, making him extremely difficult to defeat in combat. Rather than relying on overwhelming strength, Oda combines this foresight with excellent marksmanship and tactical thinking.

Oda’s greatest influence comes through his relationship with Dazai. He believed Dazai still had the potential to become a good person despite his dark past. Before dying, Oda asked Dazai to leave the Port Mafia and save people instead of killing them. Those final words completely changed Dazai’s life and became the reason he joined the Armed Detective Agency. Although Oda appears only briefly, his ideals continue to shape many of Dazai’s decisions long after his death, making him one of the most important characters in the entire series.

Elise:

Elise is the physical manifestation of Mori’s ability, Vita Sexualis. Although she appears to be a young girl, she is not an ordinary human. Instead, she exists as an extension of Mori himself, capable of acting independently while remaining under his control. Because she is part of his ability, her appearance and personality can change depending on Mori’s wishes.

Elise is playful, stubborn, energetic, and often refuses to do what Mori asks unless she feels like it. She enjoys pretty clothes, sweets, and teasing Mori, frequently acting like a spoiled child. This playful behavior contrasts sharply with her role in combat.

When fighting, Elise becomes incredibly fast and deadly. She wields a large syringe-like weapon with remarkable precision and can easily overwhelm skilled opponents. Her speed and agility allow her to attack before enemies have time to react, making her a dangerous combatant despite her innocent appearance.

Elise also serves as a reflection of Mori’s personality. While she often behaves independently, her existence demonstrates Mori’s ability to separate emotion from logic and manipulate situations with precision. Her cheerful demeanor hides the fact that she is one of the Port Mafia’s most effective weapons.

Kōyō Ozaki:

Kōyō Ozaki is one of the Port Mafia’s five executives and one of its most elegant and respected members. She carries herself with grace, speaking politely and maintaining a composed demeanor even during life-threatening situations. Beneath her refined appearance, however, is an exceptionally powerful and experienced fighter.

Her ability, Golden Demon, summons a powerful sword-wielding phantom that fights alongside her. Unlike Kyōka’s Demon Snow, Kōyō has complete mastery over her ability, allowing her to control its movements with remarkable precision. The Golden Demon is capable of overwhelming multiple opponents and is feared throughout Yokohama.

Kōyō shares a deeply personal connection with Kyōka. Seeing her younger self reflected in Kyōka, she wanted to keep her within the Port Mafia, believing that someone with blood on their hands could never truly escape that life. Although her methods were harsh, they stemmed from a desire to protect Kyōka from the disappointment she believed awaited outside the Mafia.

Despite her loyalty to Mori and the Port Mafia, Kōyō is compassionate beneath her strict exterior. She understands the pain of losing one’s freedom and often acts with quiet sadness rather than cruelty. Her story explores themes of fate, regret, and whether people can truly choose a different path, making her one of the Port Mafia’s most emotionally complex executives.

Motojirō Kajii:

Kajii is one of the Port Mafia’s most eccentric members. Brilliant but completely obsessed with lemons, he treats explosives like scientific experiments and approaches even dangerous situations with childlike excitement. His bizarre personality often causes others to underestimate him, which usually works to his advantage.

His ability, Lemon Bomb, grants him immunity to explosions caused by his own lemon-shaped bombs. Because he cannot be harmed by them, Kajii freely detonates massive explosions around himself while remaining completely unharmed. This unique ability allows him to fight in ways that would be impossible for anyone else.

Kajii constantly talks about science and experimentation, believing every explosion is an opportunity to test a hypothesis. Although his behavior appears chaotic, he is actually highly intelligent and capable of planning complex attacks. His scientific curiosity often outweighs his concern for his own safety.

While he isn’t one of the Port Mafia’s highest-ranking members, Kajii’s unpredictability makes him surprisingly dangerous. His combination of intelligence, fearlessness, and explosive combat style ensures that every battle involving him is difficult to anticipate.

Michizō Tachihara:

At first glance, Tachihara appears loud, sarcastic, and somewhat reckless. As a member of the Black Lizard, he enjoys teasing his teammates and often acts like he doesn’t take situations seriously. However, this carefree attitude hides a much more complicated person.

Tachihara possesses the ability Midwinter Memento, which allows him to freely manipulate metal. He can bend weapons, redirect bullets, reshape blades, and control metallic objects from a distance. His creativity with this ability makes him extremely dangerous in combat, especially against armed opponents.

One of the series’ biggest revelations is that Tachihara is secretly an undercover operative working for the Hunting Dogs, a military organization tasked with enforcing justice. For years, he successfully balanced his loyalty to both groups, leading to an intense internal conflict. Although he was assigned to spy on the Port Mafia, he gradually formed genuine bonds with its members and came to see them as friends.

Throughout the story, Tachihara struggles with choosing between duty and personal loyalty. Rather than being purely heroic or villainous, he represents someone torn between two worlds. His growth centers on accepting responsibility for his own decisions instead of blindly following orders, making him one of the series’ most emotionally layered supporting characters.

Gin Akutagawa:

Gin Akutagawa is Ryūnosuke Akutagawa’s younger sister and a member of the Port Mafia’s elite combat unit, the Black Lizard. Unlike her brother, she is quiet, calm, and rarely speaks, preferring to let her actions communicate her intentions. Her emotionless expression often makes her difficult to read, giving her an intimidating presence despite her small stature.

Rather than relying on a supernatural ability, Gin specializes in assassination techniques. She is exceptionally agile, skilled with knives, and capable of moving silently enough to eliminate targets before they notice her presence. Her speed and stealth make her one of the Port Mafia’s most effective close-range fighters.

Although she and Akutagawa care deeply for one another, they rarely express their feelings openly. Their childhood in Yokohama’s slums forced both siblings to become emotionally guarded. Gin often supports her brother from behind the scenes, respecting his decisions while quietly worrying about his health and relentless pursuit of Dazai’s approval.

Despite being an assassin, Gin isn’t unnecessarily cruel. She follows orders efficiently but avoids needless violence when possible. Her calm professionalism, unwavering loyalty, and protective nature make her a respected member of the Black Lizard and one of the Port Mafia’s most dependable operatives.

Ichiyō Higuchi:

Higuchi is a member of the Port Mafia and serves directly under Akutagawa. She does not possess a supernatural ability, instead relying on firearms, tactical awareness, and determination during missions. Despite fighting alongside many gifted ability users, she consistently proves herself through courage and perseverance.

She is hardworking, responsible, and deeply devoted to Akutagawa. Much of her motivation comes from wanting to earn his approval, though her admiration often goes unnoticed because of Akutagawa’s emotionally distant nature. Even when he criticizes or ignores her efforts, Higuchi continues supporting him without hesitation.

Unlike many members of the Port Mafia, Higuchi often displays empathy and concern for others. She worries about her teammates’ safety and can become emotional when those she respects are injured. This compassion sometimes contrasts with the ruthless environment in which she works.

Throughout the series, Higuchi demonstrates that bravery is not determined by supernatural power. She repeatedly faces opponents far stronger than herself, choosing to stand her ground despite overwhelming odds. Her persistence, loyalty, and willingness to risk everything for her comrades make her one of the Port Mafia’s most dependable members, even if she often underestimates her own worth.

Ōgai Mori:

Mori is the leader of the Port Mafia and one of the most intelligent strategists in Bungo Stray Dogs. Calm, patient, and calculating, he rarely allows emotions to interfere with his decisions. Every action he takes is carefully considered, often with long-term consequences in mind.

Before becoming the Mafia boss, Mori worked as a military doctor. His medical knowledge, combined with his tactical brilliance, allows him to analyze both battles and people with remarkable precision. Rather than relying on brute force, he prefers manipulating situations so that victory becomes inevitable before a fight even begins.

His ability, Vita Sexualis, manifests as Elise, a young girl whom only Mori can fully command. Elise can fight independently with incredible speed and precision, making her far more dangerous than her appearance suggests. Mori can alter aspects of her form and behavior, giving him flexibility during combat.

Mori believes that leadership requires making painful sacrifices for the organization’s survival. Unlike Fukuzawa, who prioritizes protecting individuals, Mori prioritizes the Port Mafia as a whole, even if that means sacrificing members when necessary. Although many view him as heartless, his decisions are usually driven by logic rather than cruelty. This moral ambiguity makes him one of the series’ most fascinating antagonistic leaders.

Chūya Nakahara:

Chūya is one of the Port Mafia’s five executives and is widely considered one of its strongest members. Confident, charismatic, and fiercely loyal, he balances refined manners with a notoriously short temper. While he often loses his patience with Dazai’s constant teasing, Chūya remains highly respected by both allies and enemies for his professionalism and combat ability.

His ability, Upon the Tainted Sorrow, allows him to manipulate gravity. He can increase or decrease the gravitational force affecting himself, other people, or objects, enabling him to fly, launch devastating attacks, stop bullets, or throw massive structures with ease. His control is incredibly precise, making him dangerous at both close and long range.

Chūya also possesses Corruption, an immensely powerful state that dramatically amplifies his ability beyond normal limits. However, once activated, he completely loses control and will continue destroying everything around him until someone nullifies the ability. Because of this, only Dazai can safely stop him using No Longer Human, which is why the two were known as the legendary partnership “Double Black.”

Despite being a Mafia executive, Chūya has a strong personal code of honor. He values loyalty, keeps his promises, and protects those under his command. While he can be ruthless toward enemies, he genuinely cares about his comrades and dislikes unnecessary cruelty. His struggle with his own origins and identity adds emotional depth, making him far more than simply a powerful fighter.

Ryūnosuke Akutagawa:

Akutagawa is one of the Port Mafia’s strongest fighters and one of the series’ most complex characters. He grew up in the slums of Yokohama, where survival depended on strength. As a result, he developed a harsh worldview and believes weakness leads only to suffering and death.

His personality is cold, reserved, and intimidating. He rarely shows emotion beyond anger or determination, and he speaks in a calm, direct manner. Despite appearing fearless, Akutagawa is deeply insecure. Much of his self-worth depends on gaining recognition from Dazai, who trained him during his time in the Port Mafia. Because Dazai rarely praised him, Akutagawa became obsessed with proving himself worthy, pushing himself to dangerous extremes in pursuit of acknowledgment.

His ability, Rashōmon, allows him to manipulate his coat into a monstrous black fabric capable of cutting through almost anything. Rashōmon can form blades, tendrils, jaws, shields, armor, and even monstrous creatures, making it one of the most versatile offensive abilities in the series. Akutagawa constantly develops new techniques, combining precision with overwhelming destructive power.

Although he initially views Atsushi as nothing more than a rival, their relationship evolves throughout the series. Forced to work together on several occasions, Akutagawa gradually learns the value of cooperation, even if he refuses to admit it openly. Beneath his ruthless exterior lies someone desperately seeking purpose and validation, making him both tragic and compelling.

Yukichi Fukuzawa

Fukuzawa is the founder and president of the Armed Detective Agency. Calm, disciplined, and highly respected, he rarely raises his voice or shows strong emotion. His quiet presence alone is often enough to command respect from allies and enemies alike.

Before establishing the Agency, Fukuzawa worked as a skilled bodyguard and swordsman. His years of experience taught him that true strength comes not only from power but also from responsibility. This philosophy became the foundation of the Armed Detective Agency, which exists to protect people who cannot protect themselves.

His ability, All Men Are Equal, stabilizes and regulates the abilities of Agency members, allowing many of them to control powers that would otherwise be dangerous or unstable. Rather than increasing strength, his ability enables others to use their own abilities safely and effectively.

Fukuzawa acts as a father figure to many members of the Agency. He recognized Ranpo’s extraordinary intelligence when no one else understood him, gave Atsushi a place where he belonged, and guides every member according to their individual strengths. While he often appears emotionally reserved, his actions consistently show deep care and trust for those under his protection.

He believes leadership means carrying the burden of difficult decisions while ensuring that those he leads have the opportunity to grow into better people. Among all the leaders in Bungo Stray Dogs, Fukuzawa stands out for leading through trust, compassion, and unwavering principles.

Kyōka Izumi:

Kyōka is a former assassin of the Port Mafia who later joins the Armed Detective Agency. As a child, she was manipulated into believing that taking lives was her only purpose. Because of this, she initially struggles with overwhelming guilt and believes she doesn’t deserve happiness.

She speaks very little and often keeps a blank expression, making her seem emotionally distant. In reality, Kyōka experiences deep emotions but has difficulty expressing them after years of trauma and isolation. As she spends more time with the Agency, she gradually learns how to trust others, enjoy ordinary life, and make her own choices.

Her ability, Demon Snow, summons a powerful sword-wielding spirit that fights on her behalf. Originally, Kyōka couldn’t fully control it because it was activated through her phone, making her feel powerless over her own actions. Over time, she gains much greater control and begins using the ability to protect people rather than kill them.

Kyōka’s development centers on redemption. She learns that a person’s past does not decide their future and that even someone who has committed terrible acts can choose a different path. Atsushi becomes one of the first people to truly believe in her, inspiring her to believe in herself as well.

Kenji Miyazawa:

Kenji is one of the youngest members of the Armed Detective Agency and grew up in a rural farming village. Because of his upbringing, he views the world with remarkable optimism and kindness. He greets almost everyone with a smile and believes that most conflicts can be solved peacefully.

Despite his cheerful appearance, Kenji possesses immense physical strength through his ability, Undefeated by the Rain. When he becomes hungry, his strength increases to superhuman levels, allowing him to lift vehicles, destroy buildings, and overpower enemies many times his size. Even while using this strength, he rarely acts out of anger and avoids hurting others more than necessary.

Kenji is humble and doesn’t see himself as extraordinary. He often compares dangerous situations to everyday farm work, making him seem innocent or naïve. However, his simple worldview allows him to remain calm in situations that would terrify most people.

He values hard work, honesty, and cooperation above everything else. Rather than judging people based on their past, Kenji prefers giving them a chance to change. His kindness isn’t weakness—it is a deliberate choice that reflects his unwavering belief that people are capable of becoming better.

Naomi Tanizaki:

Naomi is an office clerk at the Armed Detective Agency and does not possess a supernatural ability. Unlike most members, she rarely participates directly in combat, instead helping with administrative work and supporting the Agency behind the scenes.

She is energetic, confident, and extremely expressive. Naomi often acts dramatically and enjoys teasing others, especially her brother, Jun’ichirō. Their relationship is intentionally written to be eccentric and comedic, frequently making other characters uncomfortable. Despite this, Naomi genuinely cares about Jun’ichirō’s safety and is one of the people he treasures most.

Although she isn’t physically powerful, Naomi is surprisingly brave. During dangerous situations, she has shown that she is willing to put herself at risk to protect those she loves. She refuses to let the fact that she lacks an ability make her feel useless.

Naomi also has a sharp mind and adapts quickly under pressure. While she is often remembered for her over-the-top personality, she is capable of remaining calm in life-threatening situations and trusts the Agency completely. Her optimism and lively attitude help lighten the atmosphere within the office, balancing out some of the Agency’s more serious members.

Jun’ichirō Tanizaki:

Jun’ichirō is one of the quieter members of the Armed Detective Agency. He usually comes across as polite, humble, and cooperative, preferring teamwork over acting alone. Compared to some of his louder coworkers, he tends to stay in the background, but he is far from weak.

His ability, Light Snow, creates realistic illusions that affect what people see. He can hide allies, disguise locations, confuse enemies, or make opponents attack false targets. While the ability doesn’t directly deal damage, its versatility makes it extremely effective in both combat and investigations.

Jun’ichirō is very protective of Naomi and often becomes much more determined when she is involved. While he normally avoids unnecessary violence, he is capable of acting decisively when those he cares about are threatened.

Throughout the series, Tanizaki proves that intelligence and support abilities can be just as valuable as raw strength. His calm personality, adaptability, and willingness to trust his teammates make him an important part of the Agency, even if he doesn’t always receive as much attention as its stronger fighters.

Akiko Yosano:

Yosano is the Armed Detective Agency’s doctor and one of its strongest members. She is elegant, intelligent, and highly confident, rarely showing fear even in dangerous situations. She often appears cheerful, but she has a sharp tongue and enjoys teasing others—especially when they fear medical treatment.

Her ability, Thou Shalt Not Die, can completely heal fatal injuries. However, it only works when the patient is on the verge of death. Because of this limitation, she sometimes has to inflict additional injuries before activating her ability, leading many Agency members to fear her treatments despite knowing they’ll survive.

During the Great War, Yosano was forced to repeatedly heal wounded soldiers so they could return to battle. Watching them die over and over again left her deeply traumatized. Those experiences shaped her belief that life should never be wasted for meaningless conflict.

Although she can appear intimidating, Yosano is compassionate. She wants people to live full lives rather than simply survive. She is especially protective of her fellow Agency members and doesn’t hesitate to confront anyone who threatens them.

Ranpo Edogawa:

Ranpo is considered the world’s greatest detective. Unlike most major characters, he actually has no supernatural ability. Instead, his deductions are so unbelievably accurate that everyone assumes he must possess one. His “ability,” Super Deduction, is simply a method Fukuzawa created to help him accept and use his natural genius.

Ranpo is extremely confident—sometimes arrogant—because he knows very few people can match his intellect. He enjoys praise, sweets, and solving mysteries, often acting childish when bored. Despite this playful personality, the moment a case appears, his demeanor becomes calm and focused.

His observations are nearly flawless. By examining tiny details, body language, or evidence that others overlook, he can reconstruct entire crimes within minutes. This makes him one of the Agency’s most valuable members.

Ranpo also cares deeply about his coworkers, though he rarely expresses it in emotional ways. He has a particularly close relationship with Fukuzawa, who believed in him when no one else understood him. Beneath his confidence is someone who values the Agency as his family and will do everything he can to keep them safe.

Doppo Kunikida:

Kunikida is one of the Armed Detective Agency’s most reliable members and acts as Dazai’s partner. He is disciplined, serious, and believes that every aspect of life should follow a carefully planned ideal. He carries a notebook in which he writes schedules, goals, and principles. Whenever something disrupts those plans—especially Dazai’s antics—he becomes visibly frustrated.

Although he can appear cold or overly strict, Kunikida genuinely cares about others. He holds both himself and those around him to high standards because he believes everyone has the potential to become better. When civilians are in danger, he is willing to sacrifice himself without hesitation.

His ability, The Matchless Poet, allows him to create objects by writing their names in his notebook. The objects must fit within the size of the notebook and cannot be living things. He commonly creates weapons, tools, ropes, flashbangs, keys, or other items depending on the situation, making him extremely versatile in combat.

One of Kunikida’s greatest strengths is his sense of responsibility. Even after suffering major losses and traumatic events, he continues moving forward because he believes protecting innocent people is worth any sacrifice. While Dazai often thinks several moves ahead, Kunikida serves as the Agency’s moral compass, reminding others what they fight for.

Osamu Dazai:

Dazai is one of the most mysterious characters in the series. On the surface, he’s playful, lazy, and constantly jokes about wanting to die, often trying ridiculous “double suicides” that no one takes seriously. He enjoys teasing coworkers, especially Kunikida, making him seem carefree.

Behind that humor is an exceptionally intelligent strategist. Dazai notices details most people miss and can predict others’ actions several steps ahead. He rarely enters a fight without already having multiple backup plans.

Before joining the Armed Detective Agency, Dazai was one of the youngest executives in the Port Mafia. During that time he was feared for his cold, calculating decisions. Although he has changed significantly since leaving the Mafia, traces of that darker side still appear when the situation demands it.

His ability, No Longer Human, nullifies any supernatural ability through physical contact. This makes him uniquely dangerous because even the strongest abilities become useless once he touches their user.

One of Dazai’s defining traits is that he believes people can change. His friendship with Oda Sakunosuke deeply influenced him and motivated him to leave the Port Mafia to help people instead of harming them. While he often hides his true feelings behind jokes and smiles, he genuinely cares about the Agency and quietly protects those around him, even if they don’t realize it.

Atsushi Nakajima:

Atsushi is the main protagonist of Bungo Stray Dogs. At the beginning of the series, he’s an orphan who was abused and constantly told he was worthless by the director of his orphanage. Because of that, he grows up believing he has no value unless he can prove he’s useful to others. He often apologizes, doubts himself, and worries that he’s a burden.

Despite his low self-esteem, Atsushi has an incredibly kind heart. He instinctively wants to help people, even strangers, and often risks his own life to protect them. Unlike many characters in BSD, he rarely fights because he enjoys it. Instead, he fights because he believes someone has to protect those who can’t protect themselves.

His ability, Beast Beneath the Moonlight, allows him to transform into a white tiger. At first, he can’t control the transformation, but over time he learns to use parts of it—such as his claws, enhanced speed, regeneration, and eventually full transformation. The tiger is extremely powerful, capable of healing severe injuries and overpowering many ability users.

Throughout the series, Atsushi slowly becomes more confident. While he never completely loses his insecurities, he begins accepting that his past doesn’t define him. Much of his development revolves around learning self-worth and understanding that he deserves to live for himself, not only for others.
