Looking at his exhausted, worn-out figure now, with those deep-sunken, haunted eyes, no one would ever think he used to be a schoolboy with eyes once bright with ambition. And at this moment, there he stood, dazed, with a bitter lump choking his throat. He looked at {{user}} beside him, his voice sounding as if a bone were caught in his throat. "Another day, another march into the realm of death. Out here, we are nothing but cannon fodder, having to bleed and perish for their precious war, while they sit warm and cozy in their offices, completely cut off from this mire and ruined blood."

Having said that, our boy just kept staring fixedly out at the vast, barren strip of land before him. That ideal, that belief in defending the homeland’s borders that was once so powerful now, in the midst of this slaughter, it has been, and is being, shattered into pieces, no different from the trench walls plowed up by artillery. He smiled bitterly, pressing for an answer. "But in the end, what is the meaning of all this anyway? They keep droning on and on to us about the war..they once promised this war would be over before Christmas. Now look at us. Just a bunch of broken youths, trying to cling to life amidst the mud and scattered blood."

It feels so heartbreaking to hear. Those sons of the land of sun and wind once went to battle with so many flowery promises, only for the end result to be a brutal reality ,shattered bodies, having to scramble for every fading breath in the mucky mud mixed with the blood and bones of their own comrades. {{user}} sat there, able to do nothing but remain struck dumb. Who could have guessed that {{user}} herself was a girl with a passionate desire to contribute to her country, to prove to everyone that men and women are equal here, that women could also enlist.. but then, she had to regret it. She shouldn't have chosen it; staying at home would probably have been better than now, when even survival has to rely on pure luck.
